Well, fuel surcharges and tolls are currently regulated. And freight is competitive to the point of not being worth hauling. The days of being able to charge what you want have been over for years. Not sure what your basing your opinion on.

Here is the BIG deal.:D Small trucking companies are already behind the 8 ball trying to compete with the huge companies (Swift ,Knight, JB Hunt, etc.) who can charge next to nothing for freight even eat losses just get business away from the little guys. The only way to keep customers is to provide a better service than the big guys to make it worth the extra money. It's real hard adding surcharges to rates that are already higher than the cheapo's. There comes a point where customers see that the exceptional service I offer is not worth the price difference. So throwing surcharges out there is kind of a slippery slope.
