OUCH
going to be to expensive to own.
thanks

no its gonna be EXPENSIVE to BUY anything they carry...

the EPA (and the tree huggers) dont get it...

less polution...does NOT come free...this is nothing new,
the same problems come from ethanol "enhanced" fuels...

YOU BURN more FUEL (because these "cleaner" fuels have
less energy), YOURE also paying higher cost at the
pump *AND* the grocery store shelf...

AND NOW youre gonna pay a SURCHARGE for the ENGINE !

the caption under the photo sums it up COMPLETELY...

New ultra-low sulfur diesel is coming to a pump near you.
It'll cost slightly more, with slightly lower fuel economy, but it'll run cleaner.

Jeez, this is just getting ridiculous. BIG RIGS RUN THIS COUNTRY!
And that is a sad fact, because at one time we had an extremely efficient rail system that has been let go to bunk. Now we cram big rigs onto our already over crowded/under maintained road and interstates and our rail system is rotting away.

I only did a minimal net search on this and did not find any confirmation of the alleged surcharge. Can anyone find an official news release or is this more hysteria?

Hysteria.

The only thing added to the engines, that they did not have in the previous MY is the DPF. While it is an expensive item, it is not 9 to 15K worth of expensive. This is kind of like those "ULSD to cost $5 per gallon" posts that keep popping up.

From what I can see, the DPF adds around 2 to 6 K to the sticker price. And when you think about it, I mean REALLY think about it, when you're spending 90K or more on a truck, 3 to 6 percent is really not that big a deal.

I'll see if I can find some press releases backing me up on this. But I think we are all going to feel pretty silly when this actually happens and the smoke clears (can anyone say Y2K???)
