I know this has been asked many times but i can't find anything dirrect. 2000 F250 Auto 4x4 has sluggish shift from 1st - 2nd when under medium to hard acceleration. I can't consider rebuild just yet. I am going to change or flush the fluid soon. Any suggestions?

It's not a slip, just slow followed by a solid engagement into 2nd.

What type of fluid/ conditioner?

My 04 F350 does the same thing. I'm interested in what folks here think about why it's like that.

I figured this was a common problem & would have all sorts of feedback.

Nevertheless, I flushed my tranny & it seemed to improve but not 100%

are you sure it's not the TC engaging? on my '99 if i jump on it, it will shift into 2nd and engage the TC...feels like a mushy shift. then 3rd and 4th are firmer.

That is a possibility I guess. Is that how slow a TC engages? Never felt an automatic shift like that on any other car except maybe a clunker.

I've never been a tranny person & just getting into the diesel world. Plenty experience in gas engines. Any advice makes me think & that helps me learn. Thanks

I'd have to ask to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that a '00 and an '04 are going to have different transmissions..

nonetheless, I forsee shift improver kits in both your futures...

Torque convertor clutch should only engage over 45mph (last I knew for sure)

It all depends on how heavy the load your pulling, I have seen my lockup come on in first and stay locked up all the way to 4
