I know that shifting without the clutch on the 6 speed is the way to go, been doing it a little here and there but probably not near enough as I should. Trying to break my left food habit and am finding that getting it into some of the gears isn't very easy and sometimes impossible. I've figured the "sweet spot" to be at about 17rpm's and 75% of the time it'll slip right in but the rest it'll fight back. Is there something in there that could be wore out? Synchronizers or ???? that could be replaced to adjusted or is it just me? I've had the truck since 80K, it's a 2000, and it's been that way since I got it and I think I'm just abusing my clutch by using it for EVERY shift.

a synchronized tranny is very hard to shift without using the clutch, because the synchronizers will hold the dogs out of alignment. using the clutch allows for some movement, and allowes everything to line up and slip in.

now if it were an 18 speed in one of bama's peterbilts, that would be a different story. no synchros to get in the way :D

There is nothing better than floating gears in a Class 8 rig. :drive

Okay then... I'll ditch the notion that I might be saving my clutch by doing this and change that to I might be doing more damage to the tranny by doing this.

Just put a clutch in last year about this time and I'm getting some negative feedback from it already.

The "grinding" on take off is considerably worse than after the new clutch install which basically eliminated it. The truck shakes when taking off with a load, something else that has gradually come on over the last few months.

The clutch I put in was a Luk.

I thought the ZF6 had a common grind in the tranny due to some gears around the 750 RPM mark....can anyone confirm that? Is that what you're hearing?

Could be, it is a "off idle" sound and I've heard it can be clutch, normal transmission sound from these, time to change the oil, etc...

All I know is that before I changed the clutch last year it was getting noticeably worse, after the new clutch was put in it was non existant for about 6 months. Hate the thought of having to put in another clutch, I don't see myslef having too many free sundays between now and snow.:dunno
