New sound, no loss of performance, but wondering if there's something I need to address.

Variables:
1. 40,000 miles on the clock
2. Driving with no load
3. 40 degF outside (may or may not be a factor as it's been this temp. for weeks)
4. Engine is at steady operating temperature (not a cold engine).

As I accelerate (moderate), 20psi boost, when I let off, I get a faint whistle (not the turbo spooling down), but like a leak from a balloon that seals-up as the pressure drops.

Thoughts ?

Are you talkin about the "turbo fart?"

When you let off the throttle real quick after speeding up and it sounds like a whoopy cushion?

Nope - that one is distinct. This sounds like an air leak that seals-up after about 2 seconds. Is there something that controls or relieves backpressure that's not sealing ? Perhaps a valve that might not be seating correctly at first ?

Chances are its the overflow bottle letting off some steam. You may have too much coolant in the tank, or your egr cooler may have a crack. I would have it pressure tested. Sounds like a little tea kettle for a few seconds and then goes away, correct?

Yes - that's the sound.
I'm hoping it's the overflow bottle - as the sound is not 100% repeatable all the time.
Any quick test to rule-out a cracked EGR cooler; evidence of a leak or other means rather than a return to the dealer ?
Thanks

Does it puff heavy white smoke?

Thats what my 6.0 did on 3 seperate occasions when the EGR cooler was bad.

There was also a TSB where they put a new fill level label on the degaus bottle, so as not to over fill it.

No - no smoke observed whatsoever.

I'll keep an eye on the bottle level. Thanks for your feedback.

make sure youre not OVER filling the coolant degas (or as you say, overflow) bottle,
there is a TSB that changed the fill level (sticker that shows new fill level).

the tsb is for ALL 6.0L (not just the 2005 as shown in the link) -->

FDDTS - Recall In Review - 05B32

you can also buy a KIT (39 bucks) to detect combustion leaks (if its
leaking into the coolant)
Lisle Tool Corporation - 75500 Combustion Leak Detector

Cap could be bad, best possible scenario. If the egr cooler splits a gizzard, you'll know it. Your coolant will suddenly vanish, and when you top it and start it you'll get the white smoke. Running stock tunes or is it jazzed up a little? :innocent
