Took my mother to her sisters funeral this weekend and while out there we went past my great grandparents house. After establishing the ranches out west they bought and built this Sears & Robuck house back in Abilene so the children could get a better education. The house was built in the early 1900's and is on the Abilene historical registry.

Really hard to imagine buying something like this from S&R..........

When my son was young he used to ask how big the box was that our house came in............. :D

Now I wonder how many boxes a S&R house came in and who put it together.

Sears used to market weapons, also. I have a couple of old shotguns sold as "JC Higgins". Back in the day they had motorcycles called "Allstate" that were made, I believe, by Sachs. My oldest brother had one. I didn't know they made homes or sold a car, but its not surprising. Anyone here remember Western Auto? Or the "Wizard" brand of tools they sold?
