The S & R homes are cool...i knew somone that
lived in one in georgetown/virginia

the S&R homes are cool parts of history.

i remember western auto...and montgomery wards !

I've got a large quantity of Wizard brand tools my dad gave me when I was 12. And they were his tools when he was young. Not trying to high-jack the thread but this has me heading down memory lane. Hopefully I'll hit a detour.

My Gramma had a S&R catalog from 1900 something, I usta like sitting and leaf'n/read'n thru it... I remember 4 or 5 houses that could be ordered.. Barns & Sheds too. Also remember a statement in the back pages that said something like: If you can't find something in our catalog, write or telegram us.. we will find, order and ship it to you.

Anyone remember WOOLWORTHS ? How bout KRESS'S (K-mart now, I think) W.T. GRANTS ??

Anyone here remember Western Auto? Or the "Wizard" brand of tools they sold?

my grandfather owned a Western Auto store. my mother worked the register as a kid. my father and i both have and still use a lot of old Wizard hand tools. Dad still has the testing stand for the old TV/audio vacuum tubes. i have a lazy-susan type rack and jars labeled with touch-up paint from the 50s, my grandpa used them to sort nails and screws.

i use the Wizard box and open end wrench sets all the time. good quality stuff.

Teah, me too. We had a place called John's bargain Store, a shop called the 5+10, and a big Place called "Two Guys". Also remember a place called "Great Eastern". Don't know if anyone else had these.

W.T. Grants had a great snack bar, with grilled hot dogs and grilled buns. Two of those and a Coke, when I was a kid, that was fine eating! We didn't know we were poor, when Dad took us to Grants for dinner, we thought we were dining at the Ritz!
