I am going to enter the 21st century today and order Direct TV. Have only had local antenna programing up to this point.

I hope I am making the right choice as I am looking at the THE DIRECT TV PLUS HD DVR™ PACKAGE vs DISH AMERICA'S TOP 250 with the $10.00 HD adder.

I would like some input before I pull the trigger this afternoon.

I know your anticipation. I had a rooftop antenna for years and the day I got Directv was definitely a major move out of the stone age. Directv has served me well over seven years. Their service, programming and signal are great. Dunno about those packages you link as I have their basic plan with the first tier programming upgrade. I still rate Directv over Dish Network.

A though is about camping and if you want to take the service with you? We have Dish Network and multiple recievers and take one with us and a spare dish when we go camping or to the vintage races. That way I don't miss the outdoor or speed channels.

The VIP722 has (2) tuners built in. One for the HD TV & the 2nd for the SD set(usually a master bedroom or gameroom) Also has OTA HD decoder built in.
The Dish 322 is a 2 tuner model which comes with 2 remotes.

In regards to the $20 a month HD service fee, that will be changed to "Tiered pricing" within the next couple months, which could be in $10 for each tier pack.I expect both Dish and Direct to offer similar Tier packs in similar pricing.

Example;

Popular Tier (History,Discovery,Science,A&E,Animal Planet,etc)
Sports Tier (ESPN-HD,NFL,NHL,Fox Sports,Outdoor,etc)
ALL HD Pack (All HD channels plus PPV)
Ala carte Tier perhaps?

Check out the AVS HDTV forums for plenty of reading:sweet

On this thought ?

I installed a Winegard, "Road Trip" Sat dish on our FWT. Super reception with Dish Network. Turn on the TV & Receiver, push a button, the Road Trip seeks the Sattelite.. Done Deal, Dish HD while Rough'n it in the Great Outdoors.

We also have the Local Channel Adder. If we are within 100(ish) miles of home we get the locals.

Tell me some of your personal experience to draw your conclusion-popcorn :sweet

Slightly different channel selections...and I'm particular. :sly
IIRC Dish Network does not offer the Science Channel (NOT SCI-FI) and NASA

IIRC back in '01 Dish Network wanted to sell me the dish. :tounge
Ditectv's dish and installation was free

We've come a longggg way since 2001! ;) :tounge back at ya :D

The Science Channel Channel 193
NASA Channel 213

Dish Network no charge for installation or equipment. First 12 months the receiver/s are warrantied 100% after that it's like 5-6 bucks a months equipment coverage.

Directv you purchase the equipment and it becomes defective the subscriber is responsible for the repair or replacement $$$ unless you shell out 5 or 6 bucks a month fee for equipment coverage.

I've been to both sides since 1997,need any directv receivers? Half are defective:rolleyes: But the good thing is you can buy Directv receivers on ebay which is alot less than what Direc's asking for.

Too Many Channels not enough time to watch em all :dizzy
