My parents went to DirecTV and I have Dish, we both like the Dish interface much better.

Picture quality sucks on both. The compress the living crap out of it so they can get 4 million channels many of which will never be watched. I wish they would wise up and dump some of the PPV channels and get some bandwidth back to the good channels.

Alot of the time when it comes down to picture quality it's not the source but the display(TV) ;)

Can't wait till we take delivery of our new LCD.

Lance, when your wife can pry you out of your easy chair and six pack of cold ones I'd like to see some pics of your new HDTV,satellite system and home theatre system :sweet :notworthy

I know how tough it is to go from rabbit ears to 100's of channels,it's like when we first got cable tv in '82 when we only had 36 channels on a corded controller going to the converter box but we had HBO,Cmax,Show,Prism and TMC:lmao

We have Dish, and have had them for 8 years. I think Dish and Direct are both over priced. We have all the channels, but only watch about ten of them on a regular basis. The technology that will keep me buying Dish or Direct is that both have a hard drive that you can download movies and go forward or backward to look at scenes we have missed. At our age, we often say, "what did he or she say" with the hard drive, we just scan back and listen as many times as needed to hear what they said. And if that does not work, we put it on mute and read what they said. We had Direct before Dish, and both are ok, just overpriced.
Dish has a 200 mb hard drive. I think Direct has a 100 mb hard drive, but I could be wrong about them.
Just my :2c

Our system came with the VIP 722 Receiver.

Dual channels allow recording of two shows at the same time and dual play back on A/B channels simultaneously.

You made a good choice Lance. Dish Network has been good to us, and I like their two-room options. Next time we do mods at my place, you and Bill need to check out what we have put together recently.

Actally,

From someone who has family members in the business of installing and using both services (brother has been installing, Directv and Dish for many year, Father in Law also has worked for many companies in the industry)

I would still chose DirecTV over DISH.

But it is really just a matter of who you ask ;)
