well everyone should grab their favorite beverage:sweet and settle in, here goes;

seeing as today is friday and i was told by the ser. mgr. on wed. that the truck 'should be rolling back to you fri. morn.' and friday morning came and went w/o a call. i called the ford rep. late thurs. shot the breeze, he asked if i had my truck back, i said no, he then said he would make a call to the engineer and get back to me. well he never did until 10:15 friday morning. only to tell me that he got 1 answer to my many questions and that was that he had instructed the tech. to physically inspect the egr - and that when they ran for codes, no dtct codes showed up so it really wasnt necessary. he lost me w/ that explanation. he left that on my voicemail, but my phone batt. died so the message was pretty garbled, i called him on my homeline and asked him to call me on that #, well he did only 5+ hours later - at 3:15. he then asked again if i had my truck i said no, he said he'd call to find out the status.
no less than 2 minutes later the ser. mgr. called to say and i quote "we are waiting on an exhaust gasket, so you probably won't get your truck back til probably mid TUESDAY'-mad i then asked why he told me it would be rolling back to me fri. morn. and he now waits til late mid day fri. to say probably tuesday? i said you could not call me fri. morn to tell me this, yet you wait til late in the day friday. i asked when he ordered the part and here is his answer and i quote "don't tell me how to fix your truck, don't tell me when to order my parts, you are barkin up the wrong tree bub'. (here is the part where i lost it)-mad -mad i asked to speak to his mgr., he said he is the ser. mgr., i said no who do you report too?, never mind i will call back and speak to him. so i did, got ahold of the owner of the dealership. i asked him if he knew who i was and why i was calling. he stated yes i am aware of you but you have not been here in over a year. those words have come up often out of peoples mouths many times over in the past 3 days. i would like to know what that means-so i asked him. i said so what, just cuz i did not come to your dealership doesn't mean a thing, i went to other FOMOCO dealerships and if they wanted to see the work orders they just needed to look them up or just ask me for a copy. i said if i buy a screw driver from home depot and want to return it i can take it to any home depot. his response was 'no it is not the same, home depots are publically/privately owned (one or the other, i can't remember exactly what he said cuz i was steaming). so i said 'each dealer has his own set of rules/warranties they follow' and he did not have much of a response to that.:dunno take that for what you will. all this happened before i could complain about his dhead of a ser. mgr. i explained what he said to me and his response was something to the affect that that is not out of the ordinary for him. great, he admits that his ser. mgr. has issues. mr. owner then said he'd look into the situation and call me back.
5 minutes later he says yep we are waiting on an exhaust part which did not come in yet, we have no control over when parts come in. nice standard answer huh.:dunno at this point, what could i do and what can he do. i asked him if he talked to mr. ser. mgr. he said yep, heated words were exchanged and he appologizes that even though they are the business and i am the customer (who may be upset) that does not give them the right to speak that way. i told him that he was rather lippy to me on wed. when i brought the truck in. again, nice standard answer.:dunno mr. owner then proceeds to tell me more info. that i probably did not need to hear. he said that i probably started before i even got there wed. what do you mean i asked. he said, mr. ser. mgr, his 2 service writers and the engineer all were pretty edgy, and were waiting for this person to show up w/ this problematic truck (ME). i told him that that pissed me off to hear that (more fuel for the fire):thumbs because i was not the big bad wolf coming to yell at them. that i was all calm, accepted their invitation to try and fix the problem and agreed to meet an engineer who would look into the situation. but when i got their, mr. ser. mgr. jumped down my throat right away.
i then asked if i could speak to the tech. doing the work. his response was 'tech's don't like to speak to the customers'. i said go ask him please. about 20 minutes later the tech. called me. i asked if i could ask him a few questions and he said sure. i asked the status of my truck. his response answered 2-3 of my first questions right off the bat.:thumbs i was glad to hear that and told him so, he has told me more in 5 minutes than 4 idiots in 3 days. he stated yes, we are waiting for an exhaust gasket (due to removing the exhaust to remove the cross member to remove the tranny to fix the multiple oil leaks), replacing the glow plug harness, installing gaskets to (hopefully) correct the exhaust leak out of the headers. he stated he did pull the egr and it was very very slightly dirty, all w/in spec. i asked if he would re-check the coolant, (had crap floating in it) said he would. he also said i do not have an exhaust leak (head gasket issue-no puking coolant), that is is right where it should be - which is the level it is at now, about 1/4 inch below the min. line. i said yes it is at that point cuz it puked it out to that point. (remember seeing my underliner). they say that is road salt spray.-mad i could not get him to budge on that issue. he stated they test drove it he got on it pretty hard and it showed no sign of puking, and that the mileage of 22.7 w/ the wind and 17.9 against was what it reported. i said exactly, that is just what it reported, but look at my 2.5 years of data, why am i consistantly getting 10-12 with, without trailer, having bigger tires or plowing. he just gave the standard statement, sd's are not fuel rated, everyone has different variables, idling times, heavy feet, long hair, long finger nails, 9 fingers and 1 ear, blah blah blah. i could see i was getting nowhere w/ that one so just thanked him for his honesty and taking time to answer my questions. i asked him to call me mon. morning w/ an update which he said he'd do.

long post i know and i am sorry. would anyone care to respond?:thanks

once again no monday phone call. i do want to add a few things i seem to have forgot on last post. regarding the BLUE smoke. tech says he called FOMOCO and asked if it was to be an issue. they said any blue smoke for 15-20 sec. is not an issue and is NORMAL, could be the oil, could be the fuel. Need to add fuel stabilizer, (the stuff we have for sale in the shop) to boost the cetane rating. I thought great, nice answer. i found a post from fordmastertech, shot him a note and he reiterated that the computer does not AUTOMATICALLY update any current recalls. and that a compression test does not indicate a leak in the head gaskets. he uses compressed air to check if the degas bottle bubbles (it may not) and the leak only occurs under certain heavy engine loads. the probable cause most likely is the egr cooler.:dunno if they say no leak, then i'll hook up the loaded trailer and put some coolant into it and let her puke away.:thumbs
still as of yet no phone call, i'll keep you informed.:sweet

yeah, i still don't understand the H.D. screwdriver return thing. gave me impression that each dealer has their own set of rules to follow when it comes to repairs/warranties.

thats alot of reading,
so by his statement, your required to run fuel boost to ensure your engine is ok??? I never run any booster or cleaner in my fuel 17k miles just a few WIF lights and tons o power.
never ran it in my 7.3's either.
thats just an excuse made by them to sell more snake oil.. IMO
however its monday afternoon,,,,, whos got your truck?
sounds like the tech did a bunch of work to fix some issues,

the screwdriver thing is funny
I take my truck to a dealer that i didnt purchase it from, if the selling dealer wasnt 100 or so miles away it might be different, the key is Authorized Ford/lincoln service department, it even says this on your owners manual. the dealerships are independant, however if they want to service what they sell and get paid for warranty wrok on those vehicles, they must be AUTHORIZED by ford, through training and such, (world ford in pensacola was a selling dealer, but not authorized servicer for a few months due to bad warranty claims)
we got one here that sells dodge and fords on the same lot, same service center...
keep the postive mental attitude when dealing with some dumbies.

yeah, the whole my dealership, your dealership thing has me shall we say :burnit mad.

and as for the snake oil, for them to say that smoking is not an issue and to use cetane boost to HELP cure it goes a long way to make me think they do not know how to FIX it.:dunno

and yes it is now 3:30 pm monday and still no phone call and THEY have my truck - i hope.
