Sorry, I'm still learning how to use new postings.

Hello 6.0L Powerstroke owners:
This is my very first post and I hope this site is rv-friendly. I am planning a 12,000 mi. round trip to Alaska in mid May to return home in September. I own a 2006 F-250 King Ranch, SB, CC, 6.0L diesel with 25,000 mi. on the odometer purchase new. I will be pulling a 34' 11,780 lb Cardinal travel trailer.
I am looking for the best fuel mileage and power for this long trip. Diesel fuel is certain to be over $4.00 per gallon. I am plan to spend some money at this end to save some at that end.
I have already installed a 55 galllon Aero tank to replace the factory 29 gallon tank. Ford replaced the OEM turbo at 20,000 mi. It is otherwise stock.
Any cost effective answers?

some how get your HPOP to fail...have this TSB performed

FDDTS - HPOP Connector Bracket

and make sure they use THIS NEW one piece connector

FDDTS - New One-Piece High Pressure Oil Connector

install a turbo back MBRP exhaust and cat-delete (aka test pipe)
from Diesel Performance Parts - Home (itll lower your egt's)

also if your gonna tow (or make any performance mods) make sure you
have an egt gauge AND a legit tranny gauge and heres the reason WHY --> ITP Diesel, L.L.C.

installing a coolant by-pass filter would be good insurance policy...

learn where your EGT valve is...and keep a watch on your
ball joints & swaybar bushings... 6.0L Bible Table of Contents

consider purchasing AutoEnginuity for code scanning, testing and
problem diagnoses

I don't know much about the 6.0 so I can't help you with the mileage issues but I can tell you we are RV-Friendly :D If your Alaska trip includes any time in Fairbanks drop me a line and I will give you a local river tour in my jet-boat.

Hijack over.... Back to your mileage issues..

Bushpilot - thank you very much for all the valuable information. I did not know. The least expensive improvement is a new connector bracket for the HPOP. I do I some how get it fail? As I move through your check list, I will have more questions.
Thanks again

to my knowledge there isnt any way to force the leak...and
most dealers wont touch it til it has failed...

the symptom of the hpop connector leak typicaly represents
itself as extended crank to start times and cranking w/out starting

if i were taking a long trip id want the most reliable transportation
i could find...imo that would include avoiding any risky performance
mods (including tuners/flip chips and air cleaners).

Your trailer is not big enough for all the things I need from down there :D Besides that you would be tripping over it all from mid May until early July. July is our best weather of the year :sweet

I got to thinking about some money saving tips and thought of one. I drove back and forth from here to the lower 48 five times back in the mid to late 90's. I had some fuel cards from a outfit called Pacific Pride. They have a network of independent cardlock fueling sites across the U.S. and Canada. I believe the stations in Canada are called Petro Canada rather than Pacific Pride. Back then I could get the same fuel price as my home base at any location so it saved me a bundle when fueling in Canada. Individual marketers issue cards and are responsible for all billing, pricing and customer accounts for their cardholders. To get a Pacific Pride account you have to be commercial with a business license but they do save you a few bucks.

I guess then, is wait for a leak. At least I will know the symptoms. Thanks.
Although I've had the Airaid CAI since the truck was new with no problem to date, I will take your advise very seriously

Bush, why is a cold air intake considered "risky"? Ok, sorry,:jacked I know. I'm done now. Kingranch, definately take Bush's advise as far as exhaust. It will give you a great advantage for a relatively low price. MBRP is a great company to deal with also. Just make sure when you get the exhaust that it's stainless. It will last a lot longer, and I believe that the stainless MBRP system comes with lifetime warranty.;tu. Good luck on your trip. Be safe.

Welcome to SSD.com King Ranch. Glad to have you here and there is a lot of us here that pull Fifth Wheels.
Before you hit the road with your trailer(34' 11,780 lb Cardinal travel trailer) be sure to pack the wheel bearing and check out all of the brakes. Check the spring hangers and make sure all wiring is up where things on the road won't be hitting and catching on any of them.
When on the road keep a lock on your fifth wheel latch, to keep someone from just walking by and tripping it.
Good luck, sounds like a trip of a life time.
