Ok have been looking and thinking it is getting time to change the tranny fluid. The truck has 132k on the meter and everybody I talk to says no don't change the fluid because I'll start to have trouble. Is this rumor or not? I don't know if the previous owner ever had it changed but I don't want to have any trouble but the fluid is starting to turn to a lighter color. Thanks for the help ya'll

I changed my transmission fluid and I decided to go synthetic (Rotella). I was told that you should never use synthetic transmission fluid because it causes slippage and other problems. After talking to somebody that knows these trucks very well I was told this is "an old wives tale" and if somebody is having problems after doing the change there are other reasons for it, not because the fluid was changed or because it was synthetic.

I've had NO problems since the change and in fact the tranny seems to be shifting much better--really smooth--can't feel it at all. I'm glad I did it. ;tu

this is somewhat correct. early 4R100's have clutchs packs that don't do well with synthetic fluid. i don't remember the cutoff date.

if you put synthetic in and it works, then I would not worry about it.

I asked Brian from BTS about this and his recommendation was stay with the cheap mercon/dextron dino stuff and change it regularly.

Ok here is the next question. I went to 3 different locations and this is what I found. It says on the label Dex/Mercon ATF. Is that what I am looking for? It is Valvoline LongLife. Should I look for something else. I am just wondering because this is a big deal and I like to make sure all is right before I jump into it. Thanks for the help.
