If you go with pepper spray look for the type that resembles a small fire extinguisher. It has a greater working distance which keeps the bad guy away, and when it sprays it spreads out. Don't waste your moneu on one of those little squirt bottles that you see ladies carrying on thier purse. USELESS.

Craig, are you talking about something like this?

I want my wife to carry one on walks in case of dogs. This particular one empties in 5.4 seconds. Not sure if that would be a good option.

Yup, that's what I am talking about. It should have a rating on it indicating how hot it is. The rating is the scoville rating, you can look it up, but essentially it tells you how hot/irritating the pepper / pepper spray is.

Hi Bryan,
Thanks, I am just glad it ended the way it did. Heck of a way to start of the new year.

Have the police contacted you or have you contacted them to find out what this dirtbag was up to?

Hey Crumm,
No word from the police yet and I doubt I will hear from them. I have a buddy who is a cop (detective) and he works for a different department. I called him this morning as he interacts with several departments in the area and he is going to see what if anything he can track down. I will keep y'all posted. In the mean time Dallas / Ft. Worth has had a rash of "home invasions" (media phrase). Last night in South Dallas a 19 y/o broke into a couple of homes. At the last house he was in the home owner came home and caught him.
The home owner took this punk on a Texas Two step he will never forget. The dirtbag had to be taken away by an ambulance because he was so badly beaten.......and he had two stolen guns with him. Don't know who the homeowner is but I wouldn't want to cross him.

Got exactly what he deserved. However, you and all the others in Dallas will get to pay his medical bills - the video says they took him to Parkland. Free medical attention for a thief. nice.

Another angle that works well if you want to use non-lethal force is ammonia. I remember reading a story a few years back about a guy who had loaded up a super soaker with ammonia and it was a formidable weapon. Getting a nice blast in the nose and eyes would take the wind out of your sails. When I was a kid my brother and I used to fill water pistols with the stuff and spray dogs that were a problem when we delivered newspapers. Of course, the stray dogs were probably alot smarter than the average criminal. Particularly the "variety" mentioned in the original thread.

The one issue with pepper spray/ammonia and things similar, is if the criminal is on drugs. Certain drugs actually shut down parts of the user's nerve system making them impervious to pain or feeling. Then, it's just like squirting them with water. I think one of the worst is PCP. If cops believe someone is on PCP, they usually ask for a LOT of backup.
I'm not trying to scare anyone, but it's something to be aware of.:2c
