Emission Recall 05E16, Issue: The onboard (OBD) system may not properly monitor the performance of the emission control systems on your vehicle, as a result, the Check engine light may not illuminate when required.

if you fail to get this recall done your emission warranty can be voided
also if you live in CA or MA you must show proof of recall compliance to get your registration renewed.

anybody got the 411 on this recall

UPDATE:
dealer said we get a reflash and it will change the duty cycle on the egr, plus reduce startup smoke (which i dont have) change shift stratergies (oh boy) , plus help with cold startup times .

I dunno I'm kinda sketchy about MINE imagine them saying shifting strategies? Damn I'd be sketchy

(Mine says "Note: After the update, vehicles operated in cold weather may experience a small reduction in accelerration during the first few minutes of cold engine operation")

I live in California... and my code is 05E15.... "Your engine may be releasing air pollutants which exceed California standards" -I hope this doesnt mean that they are gonna take away power with the reflash... and nowhere in my letter does it say anthing about shift strategies... maybe the code is different cause it says nothing about the shifting... I'm taking mine in tomorrow... I'll post when I get it back...

I'm sure that means they're taking away power...

Sounds to me like they're taking away power

I wouldn't even take it in for that...

Here is what I wrote on another diesel website concerning the most recent recall release:

I received my recall notices this past summer. Vehicle has never seen the dealer since I purchased the truck in June 2004.

Received a reminder from Ford in November or December to have the recalls performed. Vehicle still has not seen a dealer. Fuel mileage is 15-16mpg during my trek back and forth to work (100 mile round trip / 90% travel is highway miles with cruise control set). Cruising to NW Pa this summer (I live in SE Pa) yielded 19mpg.

Vehicle runs fine at this time. In fact, I just removed the EGR and cleaned it. Upper half was carboned and sooted up. Lower portion not so bad. The lower valve was stuck open slightly. Cleared codes and ran the EGR monitor. Monitor now ready. No hard or pending codes. (I do have the EGR pintle position sensor voltages for full close and full open on my original valve and I also know the maximum current my valve needs to fully open. When I get time I will post these numbers).

Six months after purchasing this truck I had several dead pedal issues in the snow while driving home. I found the EBP sensor (exhaust back-pressure sensor) opening halfway blocked with carbon and oil soot deposits (thank you EGR and PCV system). I replaced the EBP sensor and the stainless steel tube that feeds exhaust gas to the sensor. No more dead pedal issues.

This past November I purchased the updated EBP sensor and it is residing in my glove box to this day. One of these days I may purchase the ICP sensor and the IPR solenoid, maybe the VGT solenoid too.

I do have the oil drip on the bell housing and some oil on the heads by the exhaust manifolds. Not sure if the oil on the heads are from the glow plugs or from a leak higher up. No loss of engine oil between changes though.

I have seen a maximum of 5% fuel-in-oil numbers per my oil analysis tests performed by Blackstone after every oil change. Talk points to Ford will do nothing until fuel-in-oil is at least 12%. I do idle the engine longer at times. Most times the idle is kicked up to 1200rpm via my idle-up switch placing battery power on the PTO wire. For what it is worth my fuel-in-oil numbers are not consistent.

I do plan on checking the engine harness for damage when I get around to changing the engine coolant. At that time I can justify removing the coolant bottle / degas bottle so I can remove and check the FICM and its harness.

Overall, I haven’t had any real problems with my engine and I'm now at 53,400 miles.
