I've done a lot of gear changes....royally screwed up the first couple of times, but I had to nail it down to keep my job. Mike's link covers the process well but it's not something I'd recommend as a first and only time DIY project.

I also suggest you have a reputable shop do it. They'll do it right and your truck will only be tied up one day.

will second the idi likes to be around 2k-2500 rpm
like stroker said, throttle back , drink a coke or two while you climb the hill
my 92 pulled our old 10k fiver just fine at 65 mph all day. but it took a few miles to get up to speed.

we had 4.10 gears,
slow on the start but always finished

Take a vacation to NH. In a weekend we can completely swap axle housings. You can have my 4.10's and I'll get your 3.55's

I have had AMSOIL in my diff's since 75K so there in great shape.

i didnt go 3.55 to 4.10s but instead went 4.10s to 4.88s im really happy with the way the truck is.

I thought that the 3.73's were the factory gears...aren't they???:confused:

I was under the impression the 4.10's were the other option.
