Power Steering system flush,1 person?

I too was surprised to learn that ATF was used when we took delivery of our 99 which made things simplified as I didn't need to stock separate power steering fluid.sweet

very intresting guess it is time to start do some service on the truck now. That is very intresting about the atf in the ps pump.

transmission fluid is the recommended fluid for Powerstrokes..
About half of the vehicles we service specify ATF, the other half some form of the clear

As the title says is it possible to flush the power steering system with just 1 person or is it a mandatory 2 person deal?

The brake system requires "DOT 3" brake fluid.

use dot4 the boiling point is higher and you can mix w/ dot3

So I did this today. I found if you slam on the brake and keep the wheel pegged the fluid shoots out. However a little to fast, I got air into the pump. So I just shut the motor off and then just turned the wheel back and forth a few times and the air got out. Then I got about 3 quarts through and the fluid was nice and red not black like it started.

Oh, the one thing I did differently was I sucked all the old fluid out of the reservoir first and then refiled it with fresh before I started this.
