power problem

Thanks for the suggestions. I did have a chance to take it to a mechanic with a diagnostic computer and he pulled 3 codes that all had something to do with with the EGR. I was wondering what a new one cost (thanks for letting me know) because I was wondering if it was worth the effort to just clean the old one instead of getting a new one. I saw a link on how to clean one the right way. Doesn't seem to difficult. By the way, is there any reason to ever plug the EGR back up? And is it safe to just pick up fuel filters at the local auto parts store? Last time I changed them I pick them up at the Ford dealership, but they seemed a little pricey for such a simple part.

do it yourself...my dealer billed ford (under warranty) almost 500 bucks
to replace the egr valve. NEW from the dealer the valve is about 150 bucks.

the gasket kit (as i said) is 7 bucks....try cleaning it 1st...its worth a try.
you can tape the bottom of the actuation/motor to prevent any soot
or fluid from getting inside the actuator (i just did mine last week, 2nd
time ive cleaned mine since ive owned the truck).

ford dealer will be the most expensive on the filters...internet will be
the cheapest...what ever you do compare the filters very closely
inside and out...make sure theyre OE spec...check the mating surfaces
and plastics (base & top) and make sure they are the same height...this
goes for ALL filters...there are some alternatives made that dont fit
right and arent even close in design/spec.

as for connectign the egr valve BACK....thats your choice...it does
work in concert w/ other senors and solenoids (vgt & ebpv)...some
who run w/ it disconnected have reported no change in
performace or mpg.

I did not check the temp switch, didn't even know about it. How does the switch control the fuel injection (just for my personal knowledge, always looking to learn), where is it at, and what am I supposed to be looking for?

yeah i wanna know how the temp switch impacts the injection too...

no codes from related to any temp switch i bet huh...

the links discuss the cleaning process as well as important info
about keeping soot and solvent outta the valve actuator when cleaning.

when i picked up the gasket set the other day (my dealer had it in stock btw)
it was all of 7.48 (USD) out the door (TT&L)

I was wondering if a bad injector would show up on a diagnostic computer when retrieving any codes you might have. My truck is sometimes hard starting even in warm weather (sometimes even stalling out the first time I start it), but it runs fine once it has warmed up. The only thing I can think it might be is a bad injector. But it did not show up on the diagnostic computer.

i have read the information in the links before(via the 6.0l bible), but probaly will again. hopefully it won`t cost that much up here, but probaly double what you paid. just picked up fuel filters today...120.00 cdn...:rant....but the truck needs them....
