I was wondering if a bad injector would show up on a diagnostic computer when retrieving any codes you might have. My truck is sometimes hard starting even in warm weather (sometimes even stalling out the first time I start it), but it runs fine once it has warmed up. The only thing I can think it might be is a bad injector. But it did not show up on the diagnostic computer.

there are test that can be run via GOOD laptop diagnostic / code tools
that will perform injector buzz test and cylinder contribution tests
to HELP diagnose injector issues.

you COULD have restricted fuel pressure (500psi is required to start)
or HPOP issues...again GOOD laptop diagnostics will help identify these
issues.

The software might SEEM expensive but when you consider the potential
time saved in trouble shooting and replacement parts not to mention
down time that its easy to see a return on investment when purchasing
the software !

autoenginuity is the software i use...and its saved me in down time
and i beleive its made me BETTER aware of the few problems ive had
(even under warranty) and avoided mis-diagnoses by a dealer/tech...

a couple of 100 buck (deductable) repair bills and a few days down
time is all it would take for me to justify the cost of the software.

i had an in warranty egr replacement....i diagnosed the problem and
it STILL took the dealer 3.5days to get my truck back to me...AND
they billed FORD almost 500 bucks (150 for the part) for the repair.

I once read in a diesel power mag that this problem could be because of HPOP issues, but I really didn't understand how the HPOP could be causing the problem. Can you give a brief explanation? Anyways, I don't have a diagnostic computer, so I assume the Dealership will have the sufficient software to diagnose the problem. I don't trust them to do the work, but I don't really know how else to do a laptop diagnostics.

HPOP (high pressure oil pump) supplies high pressure oil to each HEUI (hydraulic electronic unit injector) fuel injector, the injector is operated electronically and the oil provides the power to pressurize the fuel for injection.

No / low HPOP, no starting.

Hope that makes sense.

a generic scan tool just doesnt cut it any more...mfg's got smart and
hid their data beyond the 'reach' of 98% of the generic scan tools.

now you need CAN capable and mfg specific scan tools.

autoenginuity is one of the best <available to the consumer>

My dealer wants to charge $200 for the scan, if nothing else is done to the truck, engine wise.

I am with Bush on this, I highly recommend getting the Autoenginuity scan program/kit and do your own. You will need a laptop computer to run it without long wires going to your desktop machine.

Thanks, I actually found a laptop sitting around that I haven't used in a while, sounds like it just became my dedicated F250 computer

remember that when yuo install the software its basically licensed to
that laptop...youll need a serial port OR a usb port for the OBDII
data connection
