First post here with many more to come. I need your help. My 99 SD has popping and thunking sounds under my feet as I turn the wheel when pulling out. It is obviously something to do with a linkage. Answers? E-from CO

duz it do it any other time? might be the sway bar bushing!

It seems to do it on the driver side when I'm going slow. Backing out and turning is when it is most apparent, but going forward too. Up to speed...not a problem. Do I need to get it on a lift to manually move things around. Can I fix this myself? Thanks guys. E- from CO

Could be one or the other.. or both.

It's a fairly easy DIY with a good set of common tools. You'd be replacing dried out rubber bushings.. that can be cut, to make removal easier.

Yer call but if One is shot.. you may as well replace them all.. get a SET of bushings ?

I'd have to say three things likely, in this order..
most common - sway bar link bushings
next most common - spring shackle bushings
least likely - shock bushings
mostly on the fact you replaced the shocks a year ago..
however, the top bushings may be worn/loose, so again with my mantra..

Def I would check the sway bar bushings and endlinks. No matter speed I was goin you would here the clunkin noise under the truck when you hit a bump. My bushings were all bad. Mainly the Big sway bar bushings on the front axle. I bought a polyurethane kit from LMC truck. Mine didnt fit right though. Still had play in them so I shimmed them and works fine. I know I got the right ones. Mines the 99.5 yr. I think they are the 31mm or 32mm ones.

Man, I was fixing to post the same issue. I was thinking the u-joint on the axle. Well, not sure if its the same thing....mine is a poping under my feet (front end) but mine feels like something is catching and holding me back a little. Only when I turn when I'm going slow and much worse in 4x4. I was going to get all 4 wheels off the ground and put it in 4x4 and see how it acted.
