we go down for Equine Affaire sometimes.. when we do, we exhibit the Clydes.. so we make that trip with a 3,500 lb trailer, 3,600 lbs of horse, 20 bales of hay @ 70lbs per bale, four saddles for another 350 lbs, tack and show clothes, plus chore clothes & underwear, towels, cleaning supplies, buckets.. yeah, we're easily hauling 9,300 lbs...

Cool , we go every year too . I'll have to see if I can find ya . Love those big horses . We have quarter horses but I would love to have a a Clydesdale some day .

On the air flow thing if the a/c condenser , inter cooler , and radiator are clogged up with debris it will hinder airflow even at high speeds . I agree the flex fan needs to go . They don't move enough air especially when they flatten out .

Try this ?

ALL, with house pressure water*.

1. Back-flush the Radiator.

2. Back flush the Inter-cooler

3. Back-flush the A/C condenser, then, with a stiff, short bristled brush.. clean the condenser fins.. vertically only.. Back flush/rinse it. Do that 3-4 times, or until you feel it's free of any crap'n bugs.

4. Back-flush everything.. one more time.

* I use a nozzle that's meant for hosing off driveways. puts out a Fan spray pattern. Works Real Good too.

I think that with a load on a grade your flex fan isn't moving enough air . Keep in mind pulling a grade with a load you are really making a ton of heat , engine , turbo , tranny ........ you really need to have everything working well to keep the temps down . I had a truck a few years back that was doing the same thing . I pulled the radiator , a/c condenser , and radiator out and pressure washed them all . You shoulda seen the dirt and debris come out . Anyway that fixed it . I had a stock clutch fan . I think it's a matter of just not getting enough air moved across the motor .[/QUOTE
No Load just truck, the only time it did it was on a stop start hill climb and the other was a sweeping winding road that i started at 100 Kph ddown to 70 kph

Sorry , I thought I read that you were pulling a load . That's strange . I just re read your post . Makes me think your t-stat is sticking .

Ok , it just did it to me sitting in traffic with the AC on ? i do not run the ac but with wife and kids in truck need ac , i think that maybe the flex-fan is not the way to go now.

Hell , I'm jealous that you need the A/C right now . . I know your in Australia but man it's about 36 degrees here today .

Yeah BigDog you need a clutch fan like the one that came on your truck. Nothing cools like it.

The Fan/Clutch assembly from Ford/IH is about as good as it gets.. is my .02

Look 'round and see what the HARD CORE/FULL ON, "Outback" Competition guys are using ????

Don't go with something that does not belong on your truck. Like Joe says, the stock setup is very good, if not the best.
