I was gonna say bugs too. seems an buggy (and other debris) environment.
Hi guys i do not have a clutch fan but a flex fan and the coolant is well as clean as coolant can be , on the egt i have replace the std outlet off the back of the turbo with a 99-03 Ford 7.3L Powerstroke Turbonetics Hi-Flow 31165 from dfuser and a 3.5 to 4 inch down pipe into a 4 inch system .
I think that with a load on a grade your flex fan isn't moving enough air . Keep in mind pulling a grade with a load you are really making a ton of heat , engine , turbo , tranny ........ you really need to have everything working well to keep the temps down . I had a truck a few years back that was doing the same thing . I pulled the radiator , a/c condenser , and radiator out and pressure washed them all . You shoulda seen the dirt and debris come out . Anyway that fixed it . I had a stock clutch fan . I think it's a matter of just not getting enough air moved across the motor .
hey that's a good point.. that seems like a pretty dusty environment, so I'd imagine it very possible for a pretty good layer of just crud to build up on everything..
I try to backwash mine every time I think about it, and I've never had heat issues, even hauling the horses up the hill from US 23 around 270 to the Ohio State Fairgrounds.. it's not a big hill, but it's a loooooooong sumbitch.
When you're pulling the grades how fast are you going? 35mph or 55Kph or greater?
if so then you have more air flowing from the speed of the truck and the fan is not making a difference.
If you are going slower than roughly those speeds then the fan is needed and a flex fan deforms and does not pull as much air when spinning much faster than idle.
My wife showed horses for years when she was young . She took 8th in State of Ohio in Equitation . My twin daughters just turned 9 . It will be their first year showing (not lead line) . Hopefully they will follow in mama's footsteps .
Sorry for the hijack .
