Which brand oil filters do yall use. Since I bought my truck I have always brought my truck to have the oil changed in it. Now I am going to start doing it myself. Just curious. I was at WALMART and I was looking at thr FRAM filters and a couple of other cheap brands. Yall let me know which ones yall use. Oh, and our truck does take 14 quarts of oil right. 2 in the filter and 12 in the pan. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks guys.

I buy the cheapest oil filter i can find, that meets the specs visually.
motorcraft, fram, napa gold...theyre all made by wix (probably).

wix is the largest filter manufacture in the world & makes most oem
spec filters and drops 'em in a different box.

I was buying from fleetfilter until some visual changes in the filters
raised my concerns...Ive got plenty of filters on my shelf so i havent
had to buy any in a while...guys at fleetfilter may have resolved the
issues or changed the supplier...i dont know...but it would be worth
checking w/ them.

heres the pricing & source homework id done a year or so ago...
read the entire post...there was a necessary update do to some
pricing changes that occured across the board (more proof that
everyone is buying from the same supplier/mfg).

good lord i just looked at this and realized it wasnt a 6.0L forum...

but ill answer anyway ;) :D

i dont personally think synth. oils are worth the extra cost...
i THINK you can run conventional dino oils and change 'em
(along w/ the filter) more frequently and be CERTAIN youre
removing "impurities" and at best break even w/ the cost of
synthetics.

i think FREQUENT oil changes have a benefit over synthetic
oils...hell now you can even send your samples to blackstone
and extend the changes (by testing to see what, if any, impurities
are in the oil).

Synthetic oils do serve some advandages. I run syn oil to cure the romps during cold weather. I change my oil at the recommended intervals according to Ford and it isn't that much more. Rotella T 5w40 oil. Just my opinion. :)

Synthetic oils have had a huge impact in our fleet. We used to change about 3 engines a year using conventional motor oil then we switched to amsoil syn. and may have lost 2 in the past 2 years. I won't run conventional motor oil again syn is wort the extra cost.

I use a Fleetguard LF691 that I get from wholesalemidwest.com. It's cheaper then buying from pep boys and it's TWICE the size. Brings your refill of oil right to 4 gallons. super simple oil changes. It also does do a better job filtering. I've gone as far as 7500 miles on a oil change in my 01 (never had a chance to check in my 95) and I think i could go to 10k. Good filter, good price, looks cool too!
