I've tried an Amsoil oil filter, and I'm on a FoMoco filter currently. What seems to be everyone's choice of oil filter for the 6.0? I've read a lot of issues with some knock of filters, and such. Normally I'm a Wix (napa gold) kind of guy. Good quality, overall very good filter, and good price.

the last napa golds i got from fleetfilter.com were NOTHING like the OE
filters....and this isnt limited to just the oil filter...the trans & fuel filters
were different too.

im sticking w/ the fram equiv. (available at walmart for 13 or 15 bucks)...
its comparible to the motorcraft one, including the inner core, felt
ring & the HEIGHT (all of which were different w/ the last napa golds i got).

the last (outta spec looking) napa golds i used were showing a DELAY in
oil pressure on start up (even from the crappy in dash gauge)

I will say that the air filter available from fleetfilter.com was an exact
match and considerably less than even the fram air filter avail. at
walmart.

yeah, I've heard about issues with the wix, but didn't know if they had them fixed by now. the Amsoil filter I used a lot differentlooking than the OEM ford filter. One thing I noticed about the differences was the top, the AMsoil had a rubber gasket on top, and the OEM does not. so how can it seal oil at the top? plastic on plastic does not make for a very good seal... only thing wrong with the OEM filter, or that I can't understand. if that makes sense.

the filter doesnt NEED to seal at the top...oil is filtered from the inside OUT
(or is it vise versa).

heres some details on the pat. numbers and my findings from jan. 2005

at the time MANY thought the patent numbers stamped on the filter
bottoms were specific to the construction and TYPE of filter...and
therefor many were seeking any filter w/ the pat. numbers stamped
on 'em (which also said made in germany).

in reality the patent numbers and the "made in germany" were specific
only to the plastic top, bottom (w/ felt seal) and the filter housing design.

------------------------------------------------------------

upon review of the patent numbers it seem
the FILTER patents only cover PORTIONS of the filter not
necessarily the manufacturing of the filter itself or material
(let alone the number of pleats) being used by any given
filter manufacture.

the patents cover the base/seal & the locking top/filter houseing,
NOT the filter itself.

Heres information provided from the US PATENT & TRADE MARK
office (I've provided LINKS to the patent documents you
can see engineering drawings for each patent at these links)

Patents Numbers 6,086,763 and 6,554.139 are the only Patent
numbers stamped on the filters.

6,086,763 covers the SEALING/compression ring on the filter bottom
and the DISK/base design...this patent has a GERMAN origin/inventors
and is assigned to Ing. Walter Hengst GmbH & Co. (Munster, DE)

6,554,139 covers the extension & locking portion of the filter, this
patent has origins/inventors based in California & is
assiged to Parker-Hannifin Corporation (Cleveland, OH)

6,554,139 appears (by the engineering drawings) to cover the filter
housing, cap & filter top/locking portion....i laughed when i
read the part about the "dripless" element/housing...

so the mystery continues...possibly only the BASE of the filter and
its sealing ring are made in germany...

fwiw the frams are an EXACT match, and 4 or 5 bucks cheaper than
the motorcrafts (when compared side by side at walmart).

last time i price the oil filter from the dealer they were getting
39 (usd) ;) each....where you can buy the same filter currently for
19 @ walmart or the fram for 14 or 15bucks.

i pay about 25 Cdn for a Ford filter and have it delivered the shop, since the shop i work out of deals with Napa, they only have there own brand. any other place i been at that sells Fram don`t stock a filter for the 6.0L...so why would i waste my fuel to save a couple of dollars trying ti find the Fram filter, when i can have the OEM filter delivered right to me....:)

As usual Bush is correct, same filter..less money. Stay away from Purolater. Or for that matter any 2 piece design.
