Oil and filter,,,first 500

Well,, I take delivery of my first 6.0 PSD the first week of April. I know I am jumping the gun but I really hate last minute searches. So,, with that said,, I amlooking for information on what kind of oil and filters I should use for the first 500 miles???

You know "some" dealers offer a full FREE oil/filter change at 3,000 miles? Might wanna see if the selling dealer can offer that to you as a customer appreciation "Thank You" for purchasing from them,you may even be able to get em to add a bugflector,step bars or even a bed liner for no charge

My personal choice would be OEM filters and Dino oil afterwards(oil weight depends on your location)

Can't wait to see photos of the new truck!

Go for the "free introdcutory" dealer change. Filters for 6L are not cheap (oil=$18, fuel=$70, and air >$100). I get my oil and fuel filters at WallyWorld, as well as oil. 6L holds ~15 qts. and a dealer change is about $90! If you change your own oil, suggest Fumotovalve drain plug replacement! Enjoy that new truck!!! I love mine.

Anyway I have been hearing on here about the AMSOIL oil and filter system, is the oil that much better? What are the pos and negs, cost and such things?

Any info would be nice and soon as i can find the friggin dig camera I will post some pics of my new truck, I am a proud pappa

Do a search and you will find more info that you can imagine. Oil preferences are like (you know what)... everyone has one.

I used dino Motorcraft for the first 50,000 miles then I got smart and switched to Rotella-Syn 5W-40. I can buy at Walmart, it's CI4+ diesel rated (newest rating) and a popular/name brand quality motor oil.

There are those that like Amsoil and those that do not. There are many of us that question their marketing and if their products meet Ford's and SAE oil industry standards... as in our case being CI4+ rated... not just that it meets the specs... but actually rated....and if it is... not going broke buying it and changing out every 5,000 miles. These motors like clean & fresh oil to fire the injectors... so I am of the majority that extended oil drain intervals are not good... regardless of the oil used.

Thanx for the replies and I agree that oil changes need to be reg, just wondering if syn/reg is the best I know that reg I will be changing out oil more frequently, just dont know about the syn cost vers effectivness.

But I will prob try syn to get a couple more k of miles and seee.

By the way my avatar is my new baby, tried to make a gallery but says that the pic files are too big to post but the pic goes in the avatar oh well I aint no computer dude that is for sure.

If yall can let me know about that too I would be great full I want to show more of her off
