Ok, I've got the check engine light on. 10k miles, 4" MBRP with cat delete. No other engine mods. I drive like an old man except for the once a tank throttle goose to clean the soot from the exhaust. I'm going to drain the fuel seperator and check and possibly change the fuel filter in the morning to eliminate that from the list. I shut it down a minute ago and noticed that the usual air sound from the turbo spinning down wasn't the only sound anymore. There was a new sound, I wouldn't say it was a grinding noise but it for sure wasn't a smooth sound. The AC was shut off before I got to the house so I don't think it was the compressor but that makes a different kind of sound anyway. Do any of you have any ideas? Can the turbo cause a check engine light to come on? Can you tell me where to get a cheap diagnostic reader so that I might be able to fix it myself before I put the kitty back in and take it to Ford? Please help.

The light can come on for almost any reason. Mine came on 2 weeks ago, I didn't want to take it to the Dealer because mine is out of the 36K warranty and I didn't want them to charge me $100.00 to tell me is was something that cost $20.00 to repair. I got a scanner and it was a Intermentent Throttle Position Sensor. I cleared it and it hasn't returned. Your could be something just as minor.

You're under warranty... take the half hour, put the cat back in, and go to the dealer... you paid for the warranty, use it!

New info...REALLY low boost pressure and EGT. The turbo doesn't act the same it seems. I'm really starting to lean towards the turbo, especially because of how nasty it sounds when I shut it down. I'm about to put the cat in and take it in to see what the deal is. Hope they give me a loaner car if it is the turbo.

well you could take the boot off for the air cleaner and see what you can see looking into the turbo... if the blades are all jacked up, yeah, you pretty much have a problem.

youre GUESSING at the problem...and wasting your own time
trying to fix this...you MUST obtain the engine codes.

the LOW BOOST and LOW egt could put this in the neighborhood
of the EGR, VGT & EBPV...but again anyone that doesnt have the
codes is GUESSING.

i had one replaced under the 3/36k too...but again we cant be certain
what the problem is...w/out the codes its anyones guess...(hell even
WITH the codes it can still be tough to completely isolate the problem...
but it IS where you MUST start) !

Yep, the EGR was trashed. I can't believe that it could cause all of that to act up like that. They said I should use cetane booster(I think that's what it was). Any thoughts on that? Any other additives besides biocide that I might look into. They said the cetane would help reduce the soot buildup.

P.S. Couldn't get the cat back in but they fixed it anyway.:sly :thumbs
