Sorry but I am new to the diesel world. I have an 05 PSD. Edge platinum/attitude, and a 4 in cat back exhaust. I was driving home from work today and the outside temp was right around 65* F. I set the cruise at 62 MPH and 1750 RPM. My gauges showed

Boost: 6
EGT: 750-850
Trans Temp: 152
Engine Temp: 194

Are these normal readings? I can't remember my truck running that high of EGT's before but I wasn't sure if that's normal. I tried searching previous posts but I couldn't find my answer. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

750- 850 is plenty low, don't get too concerned till you get up around 1100*F. You probably won't get near that unless you are towing a good sized trailer. I usually start to back off on the throttle when I get around 1150-1200, I only get that high if I'm pulling a grade with a gross weight of 30,000 or more. ;)

Also, how long has it been since your air filter has been changed? A plugged filter will raise the EGT's quite a bit...

Sounds a little high for just cruisin'. My truck usually runs about 450-550 doin' that speed empty. I have my sending unit post turbo but I don't think there should be that much of a difference between that and in the manifold.

Sorry for the delay in response I had some computer issues. I will have to check the air filter. I bought the truck in November so i am not sure when the last time the air filter was replaced. However I just had it in last week for an oil change and it's funny they didn't mention anything about it.

When I first installed the exhaust I had reading in the low 500 while cruising at 70+. It seems strange that it would be that high now at cruising speeds.

Yes, I think there is quite a difference between pre and post turbo, just not sure how much it would be, We need to ask one of the guys that has both pre and post turbo pyro's...

Your EGT's also sounds a little high to me for just cruising around. Mine usually runs between 500 and 600 degrees when cruising at 65-70mph naturally it increases when climbing hills. My probe is also post turbo. I use 1050 degree's as my max egt.

I have been told that there can be up to a 200* difference between pre and post turbo egt's that's why I try to keep my egt's under 1050*. (pre being manifolds, post being downpipe)

I'm also running 750-850 EGTs when cruising on the highway some times. Yesterday, I took a buddy for a joy ride (no trailer) and it touched close to 1,200 in level 5. I've got the Edge Juice Plat too and just installed the air filter a few weeks ago. I had a shop install the programmer and haven't looked to see where my probe is installed. I told them the manifold but it's possible they went and did the downpipe!

What I am trying to understand is how is my brothers truck with the same programmer and motor running 200* less EGT and he does not have the 4 in exhaust. It makes me think you might be on to something about the air filter.

Is their any other reason for concerns? I don't want to burn down my engine but I don't want to drive it like a Nancy either.
