In a van, down by the river.
I just purchased a early 99 F250 Supercab, Longbed 7.3, Auto.
I noticed the owner before me had a chip installed, I have a receipt in the glove box for a superchip, but the chip in the ECM is gold and says BD POWER, is there any way to find out the programming this chip has or what kind it is?
She is pretty stock besides that:chip,K&N filter, straight pipe exhaust & 191K Orig Miles!:thumbs

I believe that the SuperChip is a programmer is it not? You attach it to the truck, download a program to the truck and then remove it. The BD Power that you speak of seems like an actual chip that attaches to the PCM. Maye the previous owner had the two stacked. (Just guessing here, not sure if it can be done with the PSD like it can with other models.)

Superchips sells Chips too, or atleast they did at one point. There's no way to really tell what tune it has, You would be better off replacing it with something you know. Get some gauges in it! They can get hot quickly!!!

I only ask because the previous owner of my truck put a drop in reuseable filter (K&N by the looks) in the factory box.

It was fairly clean when I checked it, normal signs of DD use.

I have read many posts where K&N Filter lets larger particles through which could lead to "dusting" of the engine. I have used K&N filters before on my Harley-Davidson & a gas pick-up. They are good filters but for Diesels applications they are not the best choice. The best for our engines seems to be the Ford severe duty AIS, AFE Stage 2 with the proguard 7 filter & the TYMAR. One of the best ways to see how your system is working is by sending in a used oil analysis to http://blackstone-labs.com. Less than $20 and will show you how your engine is doing from the inside.

THere is nothing wrong with K+N's filter media, its the fact that there drop in's dont seal to the box corectly and leak past there. They use the same filter media as all the oiled washable...

The proguard 7 is a waste of money too, there standard media has not let anything past on my truck in 80,000 miles...
