New Member - New Truck - New to Ford

Quick hello to all of you. I usually go by Perk but this forum requries more than 4 letters in your nick name...you can call me whatever you want

Been A GM guy all my life. Needed a good hunting truck and I ran across a 2006 F350 King Ranch with the 6.0 diesel. Truck was so nice I could not resist. It has 75k on it.

I hunt and backcountry snowmobile in Idaho. These forums are always really helpful in finding known issues and getting them corrected before things go wrong. I seached but did not find a sticky.

Can you all give me some direction? What are the major things that I need to pay attention to/replace/service.

I appreciate your help and a big thanks to you in advance. Forum enthusiasts always go out of their way to help. I'll do the same for you when I can.

Perk! As with all diesel engines, maintenance is key. Change the oil every 5000 miles and use a good oil that is diesel rated. Change the filters with oil changes, except the air filter, which goes a lot longer. Home page is a good site for filters, and there are others. the air filter is not cheap, but it is one of the best for filtering that there is. Stay away from K&N air filter kits. Enjoy your new-to-you truck!

Thanks for the quick reply's. You mentioned "Filters". I forgot to mention that this is also my first Diesel. So still trying to remember to turn the key on and wait before starting the truck.

So back to the filter's question. I am only used to an engine oil filter, fuel filter and air filter. Are there more on the diesel... or do you use more than one filter for the oil (like a primary and secondary filtration type system)?

What about the death wobble I am reading about? Is this just a stabilizer issue? I only drove it last night back from the dealership but felt solid to me.

Welcome to SDD......

install coolant filter kit(do a flush at the same time)
get guages(EGT, TRANS TEMP, FUEL PRESSURE, BOOST to start)
use FORD filters
swith to 5w40 synthetic oil
check and clean EGR(can do a EGR delete)

There is one oil filter on top of the engine, but there is two fuel filters, one next to the oil filter and one under the truck on the driver's side frame rail under the driver's butt. I think atk means use only Motorcraft Filters. The fuel filter under the truck is on the HFCM (Horizontal Fuel Conditioning Module). This is also the water separator and should be drained with the oil change.

The Death Wobble is worn out steering ball joints and tie-rod ends. Wait-to-start is only the first time of the day. After it is warmed up it is not needed.

Welcome! Maintenance is very important on diesels. Just a few extra things to do on yer diesel compared to a gasser. Just more filters pretty much.

Welcome to SSD.com, and everyone has all ready told you the things that you need to do to keep your truck running good. The Auto Transmission does have two filters, one inside the transmission and one up near the radiator in line on the cooling line.

Hey guys, I just ran across this website and it has me a little nervous.

Consumer complaints about Ford F-250/F-350 Pickup

I called a friend of mine that is a Ford mechanic and he said take the truck back if you can, it is "the most broke down truck on the road".

Whoa.... not a good start to my Monday morning. Anyone on here with an 06 F350 that has had better luck than our friends on the consumer affairs website. I know there is always going to be a bad story out there on a truck, but the 6.0l seems to get a lot of attention.

You can always find sites that say your truck, or anything else, is junk. Get rid of it and buy an XYZ. You can look at Dodge or Chevy and hear all of the complaints against Dodge or Chevy. Welcome to our world. Sorry I can't respond to your truck specifically.
