Ok.....in two weeks I will finally have my new baby. 2003 F250 FX4 crew cab 6.0. Its my first diesel and I already have plans, but I have a few questions:

1. Where do I find the proper oil changing procedure? Is there a website or something I can take a look at? I am going to use Rotella or Mobil because of personal preference. What is the proper weight oil to use?

2. Oil Analysis - What is the proper procedure for this? Who, how, what and how often?

3. Do I need fuel additives? I live in Omaha, NE and it does get cold here in the winter. I am going to set up a timer to turn on the block heater 3 hours before I need to leave in the morning for work. What I am wondering is do I need to add any additives to the fuel in the winter or all year around for that matter?

Ok....I am sure I will think of other things, but thank you in advance for your answers, It is GREATLY appreciated.

Changing the oil is just like doing it in any other rig. Drain oil, replace oil filter, reinstall plug and refill with oil.

I don't get my oil analyzed but if you want to Blackstone is the place. I have found that analyzing my oil causes me unneeded stress ;) If you plan on going with any kind of extended oil change intervals it is recommended. I just change my oil every 5000 miles and call it good.

If you run #1 in the winter you don't need any additive to keep it from gelling but if you run #2 you will need some anti-gel when the temp drops. Using a additive that adds lubricant is not a bad idea year around. I personally run Howe's. There are many brands out there including some stuff that Ford just started selling a year or so ago that is recommended and blended specifically for the PSD.

Ford recommends you undo the oil filter cap before you drain the oil from the oilpan. This allows all the oil from the oil filter lines to drain back into the pan and get taken out with the rest of the oil.

I usually drive my X for a few miles before changing the oil. This gets the oil thinner and it drains out much faster and hopefully with more dirt in it.

15W40 is the standard oil but I believe if the temps are below zero you can use 10W30. Make sure what ever oil you use is rated for diesel engines.

Best Place to buy your OIL filter is walmart $15.93 Fram I forget the part #. The quality is the same or better than the Ford one. When you release the oil filter cap under the hood it released a valve that will allow the filter oil to drain into the pan. Don't let the oil go to long between changes Turbo likes clean oil much better.
