I have a 2002 F350 7.3 and have a problem with it. It keeps making the "CPS" failure symptoms. It dies when running and won't start for a while (10 - 30 minutes) and then it runs again but dies again. I have changed the CPS sensor 5 times in the past 4 days and it keeps doing the same thing. I have no CEL and I hooked up the scanner and reads nothing and there are no codes saved in the memory either. I tried another PCM and that did not fix the problem. I am running out of ideas here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds a lot to me like a few trucks i have had that had been filled up with gasoline. also sounds like air may be getting into the fuel system possibly via a bad injector. just some thoughts.

stop changing the cps....after the second one you are just wasting money!

did you change out the pcm or the idm? be careful doing that, there may be a short in the harness that caused the 'puter to fry in the first place. you could damage a good one that you are bolting in.

when it dies and wont restart....while you are cranking it over does it smoke out of the tailpipe?

Do any of the faces of the sensor have marks? If yes, you have cam walk.

Have you verified the harness with a DVOM?

No marks on the CPS at all. I also thought about crank/cam walk and hope that is not the case.

What is a DVOM?

Digital Volt and Ohm meter. You need to find a pin out of the CPS wires and check for continuity.

Can you run the buzz test right after the engine dies? If so, are there any codes?

I am not familiar with the buzz test. Can you explain how to perform such test?

Do you have a scan tool? If not, you can't perform the test.

Yes. The scan tool shows no codes.
