Ok here it goes, I have a 04 king ranch F-250 Lariat, my first smoker so I'm a noob at deisel stuff. I have a edge juice tuner, 4" banks exaust.

I was traveling to the other side of Phoenix today 100 F outside runnin stop and go traffic on I-10, got to messa about 40 miles if I haad to guess. Got there and shut her down after cooling off a few mins and then 15 mins later cranked her back up and headed back again stop and go traffic -mad

The truck was runnin bad stop in the road and she would lurch and act like she wanted to die then I would put the coals to her and was jerky responsive, and gutless, Then she started to surge boost psi would jump 4 psi then go quiet the surge, then quiet then surge and a wierd wooshing noise when I let off the coals not the normal woosh but like i was sucking air through well not sure but it sounded sick. got home shut her down 5 mins later started her up ran like a top no symtoms at all. :dunno

Any suggestions should I be worried I got a 4x4 trip to go to sun going to do the 4 peaks run out here.

P.S sorry for the long winded post yall just wanted to be descriptive :hail

do you have gauges...are your EGT's running higher when trying to maintain
steady speed ? what about the boost gauge...erratic ? jumping up / falling off
under light throttle ???

could be egr related but i dont know if you can unplug it w/ your edge stuff.

1st thing anyones gonna tell you is to remove the programmer and see
how things run.

if the problem continues then id try disconnecting the EGR valve (do
this when the truck is KeyOff) then drive the truck and see if your
egt's are lower, power is back & boost is smoother...

I was even throttle and the boost was cycling up 3 to 4 psi at steady throttle then would drop off, idle was ruff and lurchy, egt's were normal, I have the monitor for the edge so I use them as gauges. Got home shut it off and started it back up took her for a spin used 1000 rpm and 1500rpm and 2000 rpm and no symtoms of just 10 mins before, nothing weird huh? :dunno

Well my gut tells me its the tuner but I aint no knuckle dragger, I can work on gassers but smokers, thats another thing.

Ohh it might be worth mentioning that i was using my AC at the time too and I shut off the AC and the idle lurching slowed down considerably. Could that have an affect that severe on the engin performance???

i wouldnt replace it yet (are you w/in the 3/36k warrenty ?)...they can be purchase for about 149 each off the net (my dealer billed for $409+ for the
diagnose...it sets a code, but may not set the CEL light....remove & replace).

if it acts up again (consistantly), shut the truck off, dissconnect the egr,
start the truck and see if it acts up again.

or get someone to read the codes that MAY already be set...

the valves are easy enough to replace...youll wanna run a brush thru the
intake/block where it mounts and vac. the soot out.

theres two 10mm bolts holding the EGR in place...remove 'em, turn the valve
1/4 turn and run some bailing wire thru the bolt eyes...and pull STRAIGHT
up on the valve...itll come out w/ some grunt...

remove the gasket, clean the intake/gasket surface, install the new gasket
and replace the egr valve (either w/ your cleaned OLD valve or) w/ the new
egr valve.

you can clean the old valve w/ fairly good results...brake clean and a
tooth brush/wire brush and come compressed air work pretty well.

Just pull the plug with truck shut off. I've got over 120,000 EGR free and problem free miles on my 04 6.0
