I was afraid I would hear something like this......

The more I think about it.... if the tranny (Jasper) went out in the 97 not sure what I would do. BTS would be way over kill and I would not stick that much $ into the truck so I can see where your Dad is coming from.
We just bought a 22.5 ft travel trailer. I added the BIG cooler before any bringing it home. Have gauge on order, prevention is the best thing you can do for a tranny. Will change fluid and filter beforing taking travel trailer cross county.
I have looked into a valve body change and will probaly do that, basically its a shift kit already installed and then you just swap out valve bodeis, couple hundered bucks but beats killing the Jasper E4OD!

Have a look at the back of anybodys TC out there. Notice the back ribs all match. Because they are all born Ford. Cut open, stock parts reused or stronger aftermarket oem designs used. The high $ will have stronger redesigned internals and a machined billet cover. Plus 13" diameter for bigger lockup clutch. Low $ billet is stamped and thinner and uses oem guts. Best oem designs are about $600. What Suncoast sells for $1200, others have for $950. Ask how much it weights and you will know how good a TC is. ;)

The custom builders out there know how to make these trannys live with custom machine work that reduces end play and wobble. How well you do with the mass marketer like Ford or Jasper--depends on how worn the core they built yours from was. They simply re-install used parts instead of upgrades or new parts. The wobble just continues and wears out again. Good luck with your Jasper.

Rickh,
Jasper does cover leaks. The only leak that wouldn't be covered would be the pan gasket, and that is only after your first scheduled service. You may want to check into that again.
