I just sold an old Yamaha, if it stayed around here any longer it was going to get chopped.

im somewhat excited about this whole chopping/bobbing thing with these ricers. i was in the market for a sportster, but they all had the harley price tag. i was looking for parts and ran across a forum for secas and maxims...found all these pictures of what can be done cheaply, and now im hooked.

The RB racing calculator in the link bushpilot provided is the one that I have used, works very well.
I have always been a drag bar guy myself. I bought my bike brand new in '03 and it had drags until I just did this swap. I rode a friends Dyna Super Glide with apes and couldn't believe how great they felt. I am pretty sure I will be with apes for quite awhile now... I am even trying to figure out if I can put apes on the new Electra Glide when I decide to take the plunge.
that is a model "A" style light. here is the link to the guy that makes them: DreamWeaversProStreet.com. he will make it any way you want, you just have to give him a call

every freekin bolt broke off in the head for the carb flanges. got them all drilled but 2 walked into the squishy aluminum and now i have a lovely mess.-mad:censored:

i really want to build an intake manifold that uses one single 42mm keihin FCR, and ditch the 4 vac. slide hitachi carbs that mount on the friggen PITA flanges.

That would be very interesting to see a bike like that with a single carb! are you really going to attempt to make an intake? I would love to see what you come up with. I bet it would look pretty cool!
how did you chop your rear springs? I tried to look at your picture but the springs aren't in the picture.

i disassembled the shocks, cut the springs with a die grinder, heated the 1/2 coil before the cut and flattened it (keeping the rest of the spring cold), and then reassembled them. ill toss up updated pics as the build goes....i need to get it on the road so i can start saving fuel money, so i wont be doing a full on chop until winter........maybe :D

i would definatly like to make a manifold and do a single carb setup, i dont see any downfalls to it, only positives. there must be a reason why others dont do it though.....?

I would think the only reason people don't do a single carb setup is that most don't have the ability to fabricate an intake manifold for a single carb.
another idea you may want to consider for a good bobber look is roll the handle bars 180 degrees from where they currently are, then flip your mirrors underneath or try to find some smaller mirrors then put those underneath. I put mine underneath on my drag bars because when they were on the top of the bars, all I could see was my shoulders. Once I did it I got tons of compliments and even had a few people copy it. just have to make sure the mirrors don't hit the tank or your knees. I had forward controls so I was good to go.
I may have to try your technique to lower mine, Those shocks are already 2 inches lower than stock, I want another inch to inch and half lower though.
