My Engine stalls at startup

My truck has been stalling at cold startup. This is surely different for a diesel. Today I pressed on the accelerator and it started well. Also I find that the engine is wery easy to stall when I let go the clutch. Compared to My Previous 90 GM which was great, this stalling its very inconvenient.

Are yout letting it warm up before you take off? If you are talking about it stalling when you first start it up (and runs fine after it warms up) i would look at the glow plugs. I am almost certian that i have a few glow plugs that dont work because my truck doesnt like the cold either.

I agree with Mike, sounds like glow plugs to me too.

once its warmed up does it run/idle ok ?

I am in Florida its 80F outside. I feel its something to do with the accelerater padel. Now I think about it, it did it when it was already warm, and a fresh start.

No codes or check engine light?

that's interesting because if I push on my pedal and crank it, it won't start at all. I would suspect you have a couple of code running around in there.

I cant remember if the EGR all gummed up causes codes or not, something easy to look into though. 2 10mm bolts and a few curse words to get it out.

its not likely a gummed up egr valve would prevent starting...since
the egr cooler is by-passed (valve closed) when the truck is started.

'nother question for caissiel -

since weve established that it does it hot or cold...
are you having to crank on it a bunch before it starts ?
