Ok, just got back from pulling my trailer. Empty I was getting from 18.2 to 18.8 mpg. Pulling the trailer we just went 409 miles and put in 25.736 gallons, which makes it 15.892 mpg. I am beginning to think that the 70 psi of air in the tires and manual transmission is the key. Only thing that I did not like, is up one of the hills, I had to shift out of 6th (od) into direct drive (4th). I went up a couple of 6% hills, but only one of them I needed to shift. I know the grade out of Bishop California going north is steeper than what I was climbing, so I guess I will need to put a chip in it at a later time. Maybe more mpg = less horsepower.
Maybe my truck has less horsepower than the average. My trailer probably weighs around 6000 to 7000 lbs. It is a 30ft. prowler. I like the mpg but need more power. Most of the driving was at 60 mph due to Oregon speed limits.
