Ok, just got back from pulling my trailer. Empty I was getting from 18.2 to 18.8 mpg. Pulling the trailer we just went 409 miles and put in 25.736 gallons, which makes it 15.892 mpg. I am beginning to think that the 70 psi of air in the tires and manual transmission is the key. Only thing that I did not like, is up one of the hills, I had to shift out of 6th (od) into direct drive (4th). I went up a couple of 6% hills, but only one of them I needed to shift. I know the grade out of Bishop California going north is steeper than what I was climbing, so I guess I will need to put a chip in it at a later time. Maybe more mpg = less horsepower.
Maybe my truck has less horsepower than the average. My trailer probably weighs around 6000 to 7000 lbs. It is a 30ft. prowler. I like the mpg but need more power. Most of the driving was at 60 mph due to Oregon speed limits.

You're still 2 mpg better than what my unchipped, '99 7.3 gets hauling a couple of Clydesdales and a hitch wagon in an Exiss gooseneck...

I wished I could get that kind of mileage, I've got a '06 F350 dually with Tow Boss, which has the 4.30 gears, empty I get around 15.8 on the hwy (cruise set at 65) towing my 44 ft goose neck w/car gets around 8.8 at 65.

Maxtor, I wouldn't do anything to that truck. That kind of MPG's and you only dropped one gear pulling that load with a 3.73 gears. What do you want????
Sounds like you have a real good running and pulling truck to me.

I wounder if SCT or someone can duplicate my program so I can switch back and forth if the new program does not give me the same or better fuel mileage? It would be nice to have an extra 50-100 hp when needed, but still have my program to get good fuel mileage. My program must be different than most, because it does not have to factor in the automatic shift points.

That's pretty damn good from what I hear. I can only squeeeeezze out 18/20.

If I got a light pedal that day I usually get 17/20. But since that's usually not the case (AT ALL!) I usually get like 15/18-ish.

I need to fill up soon, so I will let all know what the latest mileage is, but it seems that most of us are getting 18+ depending on gearing and driving habits. I have not seen 20 mpg yet. I would like to get that, but she is what she is. Some of my friends that have 7.3 diesels get 20-22 mpg. Most of the Dodges get that also. I don't know about the duramax mileage. Bottom line is that I love my Ford, and would not trade to a Dodge or Chevy even if they got 30 mpg. I am happy to get 18+ empty and 15+ pulling my trailer. I remember 10/12 mpg with my old gas F250.

10/12 is good mileage, compared to my last gas truck. It got 7 mpg empty and it was mostly stock. The 400 is a gas guzzler BIG time.

Could it be?

I just visited the banks website. On their 6.0 powerstroke page, there is a footnote that says "turbine outlet pipe not required for 06 trucks with manual transmission". I am going to check into this, maybe our 6.0 with manual trans already has a 4inch downpipe.
