You will need many more miles on your truck before you get good mileage. I would not look until 15,000 miles.

With just over 5,000 I never get less than 16 in the city and never get less than 20 on the road, and I plan on bettering both.

Explorer vs. F350

We have a 97 Ford Explorer 4x4 stock with 4.0 sohc (V6) engine that gets 16 mpg at 70 mph.
2006 F350 4x4 with 6.0 (V8) stock that gets 18.5 mpg at 70 mph.
F350 is less aerodynamic, heavier, taller, wider, and still gets better mileage. I think they need to put diesels in all the vehicles.

The MPG I have gotten so far is 20.8. It was a trip from NJ to VA. My X is completely stock. I keep my front tires at 65 psi and the rears at 60psi.

I set my speed to about 71MPH, which is 2000 rpm on the tach. I am at my peak torque and the trans never downshifts for hills.

My engine only has 6500 miles so I expect to get better mileage after the 6.0 breaks in! :)

That is very good mpg... anything over 20 has to be great.
Read my post on manual trans. shows why manual trans gets better mileage than auto.
