I’ve got an oil leak… It is somewhere right near/above the starter, but for the life of me, I can’t get that small to get up there and see exactly where its leaking.:(
I thought it was coming out of the weep hole in that cover, but its not, its really clean inside.
It leaks down around the top-back side of the starter (where it’s attached to the engine) and leaks down to the “dust cover” for the fly wheel, and drops from there.

This did not start leaking until I had a transmission put in, and I am wondering if that had something to do with it.
Being honest, I also have replaced the UVC gaskets, so that too could be an issue.

Anybody have any ideas as to how I should start looking
FYI --- I am 5’5’’ and 250 lbs…so I ain’t able to get small anymore…

Thanks RoReRi

Run your hand behind the valve covers and check if they are not leaking on the back (firewall) side. That would get the sort of oil leak you are referring to.

You mentioned the tranny work, so with that in mind..what color is the oil you see leaking? Red(ish) or black? If its black engine oil I think you'll find that it is coming from the valley. In which case it could be any number of things leaking. All oil or fuel that lands in the valley runs to the back of the valley and there is a hole for it to run out and down the back of the motor. It will form a drop and drip off the trans dust cover.

Leaks in the valley can be attributed to;

  • EBPV valve
  • valve covers
  • ICP sesnor
  • HPO connections
  • and about half a dozen other things

It can also be a fuel leak in the valley. So with all that info, can you identify the fluid for us?-popcorn

Odds are pretty goog it's coming from the top of the engine. I'd start with simple green and a hose and clean everything off good. Then short runs and try to find the source of the leak with a mirror (2" or bigger on a telescopic shaft works best). If it's real hard to spot sometimes dusting everything with baby powder will help to show where the leak comes from.

Any chance it's WVO leaking? There is a fuel fitting back there. Also A fuel rail plug thats prone to leaking right next to the tranny dipstick mount bolt on the back of the head.

I had just changed the oil about 400 miles ago, and checked the dipstick. The oil is still amber with a hint of soot.
That being said, the color of the oil leaking is the same as on the dipstick, amber with a little hint of soot.

Sorry, I should of included that in my original post.:sorry

The EBPV has been gutted, I didn't do it myself, so I can't say how that person did it. If it were leaking, where would the oil leak? Would it leak into the valley and then leak down the back of the engine?

I'm headed out to look as soon as some of the RAIN stops... So will post back sometime today... hopefully.

:thanks Thanks for all the input, I just can't stand this oil leak, the wifie can't stand it either... messin' up the driveway.:thanks

Since my injectors got replaced, and because it was MY fault:( :nutkick: ...
I ALWAYS purge before and after shuttin' down for the evening, and I don't think its WVO.
Anyway it don't feel like it, feels like oil, tastes like oil too, don't taste like chicken:roflmao :roflmao

:thanks :thanks

Well it is not the valve cover leaking, but it might be that fuel line that goes to the head from the mechanical fuel pump, although it don't seem like WVO or diesel.
I am going to run just diesel today and see if that makes a difference in the leak.
On my previous post I lied...:D I really didn't taste it, ;)

Will post results later today...

Probably oil from up around the EBPV or HPOP then. Thats the most common. It runs down the valley, out the back, and usually to the passenger side. Got a little of that myself, tho not enough to drip.

just to eliminate the simple - did you change the oil or have a shop do it? I was watching the idiot at Walmart change mine recently and saw him dump a ton right on the top which then ran down like you said. Took me two cleanings to get rid of it all.
