Well I talked to the service manager and told him about #05B27. He pulled it up and didn't see anything about the case cracking, only replacing the snap ring, and that it was only for snow plow vehicles anyway.

The thing that gets me is that it is a known problem, but for certain applications only.

I bought this truck with 32K on it, still running 265 tires, no lift, no programer, etc. I use it on the farm, so the 4x4 is a must. There's been times when the entire truck is brown. The tech claimed he didn't find the leak the first time because there was mud on it. Why the hell do people buy 4x4's if they shouldn't get them muddy?

Where can I go next? I don't think calling 1-800-Ford would get me very far anytime soon.

Sorry, I missed your post earlier.

I can post some pictures, but it's at the dealership right now.

It really sounds like the snap ring symptoms, and I've read it was applicable to snow plows applications because of the frequent forward/reverse shifting.

Recall 05B27--2005 TorqShift Transmissions, Trucks with Snow Plow Package:
On trucks built prior to 1-12-05, the snap ring on the low/reverse planetary may become dislodged due to the frequent forward/reverse shifting common when plowing snow. If this occurs, damage to the low/reverse planetary or transmission case may occur. Ford will disassemble the transmission, inspect for damage, and replace the snap ring with a revised part, if no other damage is found. This recall has been extended to 9-30-06, regardless of mileage.

I talked to my salesman today (different dealership). Their service manager will be back in on Monday, and I will talk to him about it. The salesman also wanted to personaly follow this up with him, so at least they want to look into it.

Well I got it accomplished. I have a Remanned Ford Torqshift, with a 3year/75,000 mile warranty, and a full powertrain warranty extension until 100,000 miles on the vehicle, with 100 dollar deductable. All that for $495.00 The service advisor at the second dealer I took it to was quite helpful and had the answers I needed from Ford fairly quickly. Sometimes it's worth it to shop around! Thanks for all the comments, info and suggestions.

Thanks for letting us know Bolt. Glad it all worked out for you. $495.00 IS NOT A BAD DEAL AT ALL. Good luck with the remanufactured one.

Yup, Gene Messer Ford isn't a bad dealership to work with, sales and service.

I dropped my truck off there on a friday afternoon, and the guy I had spoke to on the phone breifly wasn't in anymore. He called the next week, when they had found the cracked case to be the cause, and I simply mentioned 05B27, and he said he would look into it. Then he calls back with the offer for the assistance from Ford, it has a code, but I'm not sure what it was anymore. He said the fact that there was a recall on the snowplow trucks is enough for him to make a case to Ford about it, the transmission isn't any different than a regular truck.

I'm not at all dissapointed about the 500 bucks, and it even came with an extended powertrain warranty to boot.
