How labor intensive is removing the fuel pump or is it easier just to take it in and get it done. What would you think it would cost for one to get replaced. Thanks.

I've never replaced one , but I would rather do it myself than to be at someone else's mercy. Buy the part & you'll be able to see what you have to remove to get at it

Pull the Y-pipe and filter housing, then the fuel pump is easy. There is a cam follower (or whatever you want to call it) under it. Loosen the pump, then turn the engine till it pushes it up. DO NOT LET THE FOLLOWER FALL INTO THE ENGINE! It happens to a lot of people, so don't be one of them...

I also have a fuel leak. I took the beast to the vet and they said it was the
pump on top of the engine. The bill will be $650. Is this in line or what?
I could use all the help i can get.

Wow, $650 is steep, but not surprising from a shop. I'd do it myself, or get some other quotes.

I've done mine, with out removing the turbo. Its just that the Banjo bolt is one of those 45 minute bolts. Also it helps to have grease and diesel fuel on your hands so they can slide around so you can start the banjo bolt. I think Baz has a write up on his site on how to do it step by step.

Its not too bad. It was the first major thing I did to my truck and never having a diesel before I was right stoked that I did it.
Took about 6 hours...

Only thing happend was a small hose clamp fell into the hole where the tappet goes, down into the bowels of the engine... its still there.

Check out my post on the "other site" from about 2 years ago.
Its kinda of funny now, but at the time, I was sh*&* my pants...
