Well, for whomever saw my post on my brothers Dodge. Here is a kudos for Ford versus a Dodge. My brother called again later in the evening, he picked up the trailer, hooked it up, had flashers, turn signals, but no running lights. I looked in my manual and told him that on our fords, there is a fuse for each. He finally, (again, you have to know my brother), looked in his manual and found the same. About 1 hour later, I was outside reviewing the flash patterns on my new Federal Signal Light Bar I got early for Christmas, :sweet when He pulled up, he could not get the cover off. The main panel for fuses is under the hood on the Dodge. The problem is it is on the drivers side, next to the battery, its about 1' long running from the top of the fender down. It hinges on the top side, now the problem, there are battery cables running along the bottom side. (which you have to stretch out of the way to get the cover off or back). Now, if that was not problem enough, he has had a plow installed, apparently its the only area available to install all the cabling, and the control box for that, (or so he was told), needless to say, it was a pain in the butt and we ended up breaking off the tabs on the cover on the reinstall. What a stupid design. Should have hinged on the bottom, but what do I know. Luckily, there is enough room on the top to drill a hole in both, install a carrage bolt with a nut to keep it in place and a wing nut on the cover.

Thank God our fuse panels are where they are. What a stupid design Dodge has.

I think Chrysler has always done things "backwards". Recently a lady at work needed a jump start on her Chrysler Sebring. The battery wasn't even under the hood, but there a couple of "points" to hook the jumper cables so the car could be started. Very strange. Had the car been a Ford or GM product, the battery would have been right under the hood in full view. When I was a teenager, my parents inherited a 54 Plymouth. On one side, the lug bolts (not lug nuts) had right hand threads, the other side had left hand threads.

Some of the newer Pontiac Bonneville's have the battery under the rear seat, and cables to jump posts under the hood, what a dumb design.

unfortunately thats not the case...most of the newer (gm)
caddies have the battery under the rear (passenger side)
seat.

the manufactures are doing this because theres no ROOM
in the engine bay...AND its a safer location...personally id
rather have the batter to ANY car in the truck (better weight
distribution) and easier access !

That's the way our quad axle Macks are at work. I think the theory has something to do with the rotation or the tires going down the road. We use a 3/4" impact to loosen the lug nuts and a 1/2" to tighten them.

work on a mid 80`s Ford motorhome recently that had left handed threads on the one side....

not to defend other manufactors, but Ford has had some not so bright enginering ideas, but don`t they all....:stir ....

German automobiles have had the battery under the back seat for years. Personally....I think that is where it should be. As Bush said, better weight distribution. I would much rather have a couple of posts under the hood of my truck then two big, fat batteries. I would love more room under my hood!!!

think about how much easier it would be to wire HEAVY draw items too...
i probably have 200+ bucks invested in 4ga wire from the batteries to the
amps (under the seat).
