1. the displacement of the island is 8
cm so about 3 1/2".
2. the tops of the reactors are DESIGNED to blow off to dissipate energy. reactor number 2, they started removing the panels because of the personnel who got injured by shrapnel of the first reactor.
3. These 3 reactors are of the Mark1 containment type. there are MANY in the US that are of this design and still operating. Many are 40 years old, like the Japanese reactors. They too have just gotten 10 year operating extensions to operate them longer.

anything that says PREMOD or Mark1 is the same or 'worse' in design.
4. The biggest concern with these reactors that really is not getting discussed is the spent fuel pools which by DESIGN are ABOVE the containment building. They rely on a water bath to keep them cool. there is potentially 5-20 times the fuel rods in pool than in the reactor.
5. The reactors shut down properly, ie, no power output. just as they were designed. the problem is that the power generating system which is to keep the reactors cool went down.
6. just because the reactor is not working, does not mean that it is not generating heat, it still is.
7. The New Madrid fault, an 8.1 event was 200 years ago. You think that the reactors in the Quad Cities plants were designed for any of this in mind?
we are not so fortunate really.
