THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MARQUETTE CONTINUES A BLIZZARD WARNING...WHICH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT WEDNESDAY.
A RAIN AND SNOW MIX WILL REDEVELOP THIS EVENING...THEN CHANGE TO ALL SNOW BY MIDNIGHT. LOOK FOR THE SNOW TO BE HEAVY AT TIMES WITH RATES OF ONE INCH PER HOUR OR MORE POSSIBLE. IN ADDITION...WINDS WILL INCREASE LATE TONIGHT WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH... RESULTING IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AND VISIBILITIES NEAR ZERO AT TIMES. EXPECT ADDITIONAL SNOW AMOUNTS OF 10 TO 15 INCHES TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY WITH TOTALS OF UP TO 2 FEET OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN. THE GREATEST AMOUNTS WILL OCCUR FROM THE HURON MOUNTAINS THROUGH ISHPEMING AND NEGAUNEE AND SKANDIA...AND FROM TRENARY THROUGH THE PICTURED ROCKS NATIONAL LAKESHORE. SNOW WILL BEGIN TO DIMINISH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...THOUGH WINDY CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
A BLIZZARD WARNING MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND POOR VISIBILITIES ARE LIKELY. THIS WILL LEAD TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS...MAKING TRAVEL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. ALSO...GIVEN THE EXPECTED WET SNOW AND STRONG WINDS...POWER OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE.
