Injector help...

Hello fellow Diesel drinkers....I am about to change out my injectors….I was wondering if there are any tips or warnings you may have. before I take the next step, I have been told to ensure oil does not drip down into the cylinders, but not how to prevent this (I would assume dropping the oil out, but is that enough)...at the moment I am in the process of changing out my water pump and a few other minor things, two of my injectors are flashing up codes**, so I am changing them out while I have the hood open….any and all tips and solutions would be greatly appreciated, Thank you!

try this. I think there is a tip or two of how get the oil out of the cylinder after removal.

Getting some oil in the cylinders doesn't hurt anything, as long as you get it out. You don't want to hydrolock it and bend a rod or some thing equally nasty.

When I did my injectors, I removed the two back injectors first. As it's mounted, the engine slopes slightly to the rear. This allows the oil to drain into those back cylinders minimizing the oil that drains into the other cylinders.

Once I had all the injectors out, I sucked most of the oil out using a vacume source and a small hose inserted into the cylinder thru the injector bore. I also had all the glow plugs removed for replacement. Then I bumped the starter a few times to get any residual oil out. It doesn't hurt to put the valve covers back on loosely, to catch the oil as it comes shooting out. Once the initial squirts were done, I cranked it for a few short seconds to completely purge any remaining oil. Then it was just a matter of installing the new injectors and glow plugs.

There is a procedure for draining the oil passages, but to coin a phrase, "the cure was worse than the illness".

when you did your injectors, how did you get the right side high pressure oil rail out....did you have any problems...seem too be a tube sticking out under it, giving me some trouble...
