finally took all the boots off (including the ones on the baby's butt) and cleaned everything up. after a quick test drive...it looks like the sound is gone but i'll know more after i drive it in to work tomorrow morning. my thinking is..it was a boost leak.

just might have to do that if it gets worse...

also forgot to mention that i took the intake off and wiggled the shaft, and all is well and tight. there might be a TINY bit of movement, but nothing to be concerned with. still have no leaks. at this point...im just gonna keep driving it...a 2012 is really starting to sound nice with as much crap as ive been dealing with lately

Yes 2012 does sound nice...but aren't you skipping a generation. I don't think they have had any ideas released about the 2012 model. One thing for sure though its gonna be built to please the tree huggers. To check for a boost leak, you can rig up something that fits perfectly into the air intake where the filter hooks up to. Put a quick connect on it an plug up a compressor and if you have any leaks it should find them.

The Humming your hearing could be a Vibration, Maybe ? Start it.. move things around.. like the I/C tubes ? maybe something is touching/rubbing on something, at certain RPM (torque) loads (not boost psi).

:dunno

In the YADAOC (yet another dumb ***** opinion category -- with all deference to fellow posters) maybe you got something completely different that loosened up over the winter, like a shield or cable or god only knows what.. :dunno ..my truck decided to rumble instead of whine around January or so... What makes you so sure it is the turbo? "coming from the turbo" is pretty hard to identify unless you've cut a hole I'd like to see a picture of

well guys...the sound has gotten a little louder...seems to be more prevalent when you let off the go pedal in that 6-8lb boost range. No oil leaks, no loss of power...runs like a champ.

Last night, I ran it pretty hard on the way home...just cause i havent gotten in it in a while...just figured itd be good to clean things out. Now that I've done this, I can hear a whine...like something is spinning down whenever I let off the go pedal. its not the same whine as the turbo spooling down...this sounds more like the noise i got when i got my new injectors...

Now that i think about it...it was my P/S pump that was low...im gonna go check that!!!
