How to remove clearcoat?

Hey guys a few days ago I removed the side molding off my truck. Now there's a nasty line where it looks like the molding was put on before the truck was clearcoated. Whats the best way to remove the clearcoat and blend it into the rest of the body?

I dont think that is clear coat you are trying to remove, its the adhesive that was used to glue the molding to the truck. Believe it or not, try some diesel on a rag to soften it up.

Actually I'm pretty sure its the clearcoat, the adhesive came off fairly easily. I tried some rubbing compound but all that did was scrape te clear down even more, not blend it in any.

If it is the clear coat, it shouldn't look "thick" like that does
in your picture.

Even with the pic, it's not real clear.

Take a picture without the water on it.

Then it has to be wet sanded and buffed.

The reason I say its clearcoat not adhesive is because I'm able to pick it further and further away from where the molding was. Far from where there would have been adhesive.

you don't want to remove it.

you want to wet-sand and feather it in and clear over the area

you dont 'blend' clear coat...you re shoot the entire panel !

Bushpilot, you sayin I won't be able to make this look halfway decent for a while? really this is temporary because I plan to have entire lower part of the truck sprayed w/ bedliner.

its not all that hard, you wet sand as bushpilot said then clear a whole panel.
If you are painting you can paint the area only, but still have to clear it all.
I have seen guys burn it in(clear) with a heat gun, but you can tell, its hazy.
