Bushpilot, you sayin I won't be able to make this look halfway decent for a while? really this is temporary because I plan to have entire lower part of the truck sprayed w/ bedliner.
Thanks!

you cant just shoot "the area" clear coat cant be blended.
you have to take the clear off w/ light sanding and typically
the clear is so thin that you easily get into the paint...

even if you never got into the paint youd have to skuff the
entire body panel and then shoot the entire body panel
with new clear coat.

when someone (got caught) keying my truck (front to rear) BOTH
SIDES the cost to repair was almost 4k...they sanded and painted
the color scratch...then they skuffed the entire truck (less hood,
roof & tail gate) and shot it w/ clear

w/ clear coat you cant sand a small area and then re shoot it w/
more clear...itll never blend right, and it'll peal qucikly.

But for the time being can I not just wet-sand the clear where I need since it'll all be covered in bedliner eventually?
Thanks!

If it's going to be a while until you spray the liner, you can wet sand the clear down to look better than that, for sure.

If you're gonna cover it in bed-liner, I wouldnt worry about then.

there's a Jeep running around town like that...
every off-road accessory known to mankind bolted to it..
and the body covered in spray-on bedliner.

what youve got there looks like poorly done body filler painted
over and clear coated....you can sand the entire "patch" (mask it off
well) paint it and shoot it w/ clear....but youll have a defined LINE
when you pull the tape off...

you can NOT blend clear.

theres some "new" stuff out there thats suposed to be blend-able
clear...but i have YET to see a single successful application...none
of the shop i went to a few years ago (or this year, for another car)
would recommend it.

if you really want to burn some clear over that spot you can, but clear alone is not gonna get rid of that problem, youd have to throw some base over it first, clear can be burned in anywhere as long as you know what/how your doing, having a proper booth helps, the right reducers/blenders.. but it can be done in nice conditions also ie warm garage, windless day, believe me i'm not condoning ( spelling?) burning in clear, bumper guys at dealerships take alot of work from us bodyshops doing that same procedure in open parking lots with NO overhead, not excatly right, and yes it will NOT last like clearcoating the entire panel, but it will work IF you do it right, trust me, if did a spot on any of your trucks youd be very, very hard pressed to find it when i was done :)
