I have a question for you guys. I do not own a Powerstroke or a diesel at all for that matter but I am planning to buy one in the next year. This is what i am looking for and hopefully you can help me out. I work construction as a union carpenter and sometimes have to travel out of state for work so lots of driving will be involved with this truck and is partly why I want a diesel. I need a crew cab long bed. This is due to 3 or 4 other guys having to ride with me when we go out of town for work and I need to be able to throw X sheets of plywood or drywall in the bed I feel it would also be helpful when I have to pull a lbs approx scissor lift. My questions is will a the 7.3 be a better choice for mileage or a 6.0? and again I would like 4 wheel drive crew cab long bed. Any other critical things that I could do to improve mileage other than the obvious of drive slower and more carefully and keeping the tires inflated to the proper pressure? I have seen several articles in diesel magazines lately to help with the mileage on the PSD one of which is Diesel World - More MPG for Your Super Duty I found the article very informative and helpful and plan to do the things they suggested as a reference for better mileage. Anything else would be appreciated.

I get better mileage in my 05X 6.0 than my buddy does with his 02X 7.3. My best on the highway has been 21.2 and his beast has been 18.8.

Granted these are Excursions and not Super Duty's but I think the 6.0 engine is more fuel efficient.

I always make sure my X has a fresh coat of wax on her. It reduces drag to some degree although others here may disagree.
