How loud does the truck get if you just put a pipe in place of the Muffler? The Cat will stay. I need to keep the truck respectable as it is my daily and my RV tow vehicle. That and I don't want to hear the wife get upset with me about noise.
Little more increase in noise, mostly hearin the turbo. The cat is the exhaust flow's biggest resistor. Do you have a stock exhaust system? or do u plan on gettin an aftermarket?? this too will make a difference in a "just muffler deleted" system in reference to noise. stock system will stay a little more quiet than aftermarket, then again, depends on what you system you get. Sorry for all the confusion. Increase in noise? yes. Alot?? no. Bearable for wife? yes.
Exhaust is bone stock. I was thinking Walker BTM, but if the I can delete the muffler and it doesn't get obnoxious then . I'm sure a length of 3.5" pipe is cheaper that a Walker BTM.
Difference is, the Excursion is a Big Echo Chamber where I have a truck bed. I know that my Jeep Wrangler had the same muffler as my Dad's Cherokee had. My Wrangler wasn't all that bad, but my Dad's Cherokee would drive you nuts. I guess I should go for a ride in a Stock Excursion to hear what it sounds like inside to be sure. I'd be willing to bet that the SUV body does act like a big resonater though.
On top of that 80+ is faster than I drive. 70 is about it unloaded and with the trailer a little north of 60 with a top of 65 .
I replaced the whole thing with MBRP 4", CAT in place and the straight muffler: no drone just lots of turbo whistle. We've take a couple road trips so far and find the whistle unobtrusive. I'd imagine that replacing the stock muffler with straight pipe would give similar results.
