First test drive after replacing my donut exhaust gaskets, when I put my foot down, I hear a sound that, to me, sounded like a PHSSSSST. I figured it was the new donut gaskets not sealing. A suspicion backed up by the decrease of top end boost and a lack of exhaust brake effectiveness.
The next day, I notice I'm blowin white smoke like a BBQ pit. I guessed that leaky donut rings are causing a lack of drive pressure to the turbo and the truck is running rich because of it.
So today, I decide to take a good sniff of the white smoke to determine if it smells like fuel. Nope, it smells like burning motor oil. On closer investigation, I notice I have oil in my exhaust pipe. I stick a fingertip in it and take a sniff. It ain't fuel, but oil. I'm hoping that it's oil coming from the turbo center section leaking out the exhaust side. Since I have wet oil in the exhaust pipe tip, that's what I'm praying for. I would think that if it were coming from one of the cylinders, it would pretty much be burned away. As it is now, I'm only about 1 to 1.5 qts low on the dipstick.
So tomorrow, I'm going to pull the turbo (I'm starting to get way too familiar with this procedure.) and pray that the up-pipes and baby's butt are dry on the inside. A turbo is a lot cheaper than an engine rebuild.
