alright guys friday on the way home from work i noticed a little more black smoke than usuall when i got on it to pass somebody. saturday morning truck started right up and was 23 this morning and while we were hunting alot of shuting off and starting back up (running dogs) and it started getting hard to start back up as the morning went on and felt like it had no power and not boosting up like normal and then it wouldnt crank at all just spining over and over.finally after letting it sit for about 30 mins. it fired back up but was slow catching. now that i have made it home and let the truck sit for about a hour i went out and it started right up like it should.well this morning (Sunday) i went to town to get some breakfast and the truck started right up first thing never shut the truck off while in town, but after i got back to the house i shut the truck off and it was very hard to start and also i noticed that the transmission was shifting harder than normal.the engine runs smooth and doesnt have a miss.also its raining today and when i took off at the light it wouldnt even break traction just tried to see if there was a problem with power and there definitely is.no CEL light,so what could cause this?

its a 03,batteries are less than a year old,no mods yet other than headstuds and a ATS tranny and 3 disk converter. although i do have a exhaust system and a sct for it in the garage not yet been installed and all fluid levels are good.i just had the headgaskets, headstuds, new uvc's,glowplugs and relay and egr cooler replaced less than 2000 miles ago.truck has 120k on it and the tranny has 8k on it.

The next thing to do then.. would be to Scan it for any Codes.

Kinda sounds like Fuel issues. Check th Fuel Filters ? Air filter too ?

fuel filters are new they where just changed while the headgaskets where getting done.i dont think its a fuel starvation problem because its blowing out the black smoke when press the pedal.i am leaving to go out of town today and i am going to take it to the dealer and let them scan for codes when i get back.will it set a code and not throw on the CEL?could it be a ghost code?

No power/black smoke sounds like egr valve or turbo - could also be ficm - have you ever got updated flash?

i just bought this truck back in sept. and i dont know if the previous owner had the update or not i cant find anything on it in the paperwork that says it was done.but would the egr valve cause it to be hard starting after it was warm?also from what i have read the ficm problems are more when its a cold start issue.

I don't think that the EGR would give you a hard start - I have seen no start issues related to FICM not just cold start - Hard start when hot almost makes me think you have a blown o ring on one of your oil rail plugs or HPOP issue because when the oil is hot it is thinner so it will take longer to build pressure.

You can have Ford Dealer run an Oasis report on your truck and that will show everything that Ford has done to the truck. You can get a code thrown and the CEL not coming on, but it is a rare occurrence. Good Luck parttime.

check for codes, it will set codes and not turn on CEL....FICM will act up whether warm or cold....

may sound like a injector issue too????
